That is an intresting thought that the spring puts tension on a lever storing energy and then the lever is used to help make the weight fly up on the the ascending half of the wheel.
Does anyone know is there any other reference to this spring by any other witnesses or is the only one???

re: Thoughts about springs
This may indicate that at least some of the weights had holes in the middle and were put on some sort of cable. the spring may have been to add tension to the whole cable system to make it as taught as possible to minimize friction as the weights went along the cable. Is there any reference to this ...

re: Thoughts about springs
I think this would be a use of springs not as people thought that is a wound clock spring. I agree also that this may indicate that the weights were all tied together as Bessler speaks of pulleys ect. By pulling on this spring perhaps it pulled everything into alignment so the mechenism would work p...

re: Thoughts about springs
Thanks Jim it almost sounds like he popped in the weights and then put some tension on the whole system by stretching and popping this spring into place. Maybe by putting this tension on the whole system is how he kept everything out of equalibrium. Just a thought

re: Thoughts about springs
This is a quote from a witness that saw Besslers wheel. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what this "spring" could have been? He had displayed some of the weights and popped this "spring" after he put the weight back into the wheel?

Thoughts about springs
When he put the wheel onto another support and reinstalled the weights in their previous positions, he pushed down on an iron spring that gave a loud noise as it expanded upwards.
Any speculation about this quote was this something inside the wheel or external?

re: Bloggy Wheel
I am so new at this I am sure other people have been down the same road. Each model I build seems to get a little closer, It's like a tease, so close yet so far. I think I am onto something (not as confident as John) It is a matter of getting the size of the wheel and the weights just right to get e...

re: Bloggy Wheel
I think works in pairs refers to the number of weights at the end of each arm. A working wheel I think would take a minimum of 4 weights acting with each other and opposite each other to make the wheel turn slowly 2 at each end of the arm

re: Plump Horses
Maybe its as simple as gravity moving one weight and that weight moving another one perhaps cart before the horse refers to the size of the weights

It seems to me everytime I try an idea and it fails it gets me thinking about a little different approach or sometimes a totally different approach. So Walter try your "last idea" I bet it will get you thinking of something else. I know what you mean thou I am new at this but I have alread...

re: Plump Horses
What I am working with could be a solid or non-solid connection it would work the same with either it is just easier connecting with a line.

re: Plump Horses
I am looking at the crossbar as possibly just a connecting of the weights not necesarily a solid crossbar I am working with a line now to connect the 2 sides together so they work together. Gravity effects both sides in a different way but they work together. Sorry can't explain a whole lot more wit...
