re: What would you do, really.

My plan is to get it working and then patent the idea as an energy saving device. I would then show the idea in public, on the internet and anywhere else I could think of. if large organisations want it, they can have it at a price and then they can try and protect any patent infringements. Incident...

re: force on a dam

Thank you Fletcher- your post is greatly appreciated.
I remember doing fluid dynamics a long time ago and your link will help me refresh my memory.

force on a dam

Just a quick question- does the force acting on a dam from the water depend only on the vertical area of water and the depth of the water or is it also dependant on the volume of water as well?

I would have thought that the greater the volume of the water, the greater the force on the dam.

Re: re: Simple wheel idea

you should see how good these guys deal to a S.American monkey! ||8>] Is that a joke at the expense of people who criticize you? YOU USE the math in a simple chain siphon despite people saying you create changes when you use the levers that are the working parts of your folding chain. Think about i...

re: Simple wheel idea

Thanks Tarsier

What I meant to say was: "I would still really appreciate someone to come out and say why this would, or wouldn't work".

But I will fully take your point on board and continue to try and prove why it wont work in the hope to be proved wrong...!

re: Simple wheel idea

Hi Murilo Thanks for the question- The 4 balls are on the outer wheel and are balanced at this point. The other ball on the rack will act on the small gear and turn the outer wheel. It can rotate on or more times before the weight on the rack reaches the bottom of the rack. at this point the weight ...

re: Torque calculation

Hi Clay 973

To be honest, those formulae would really help me too as I have limited knowledge of this stuff, unlike a lot of the extremely knowledgeable posters on here..

re: Torque calculation

Hi Clay 973

Have you looked at the simple wheel idea on this thread as your weight configuration appears to be doing something similar to what my rack configuration is doing?

re: Simple wheel idea

Hi Preoccupied With regards to your comment : (Quote) " Your gear moving the vertical requires equal forces. You've chosen a mechanical method that does not give you an advantage." My idea is for the extra weight on the rack to give the wheel its advantage- not the method of driving it. I ...

re: Simple wheel idea

So based on the information above, can anyone tell me why this idea will, or wont work ? I have not looked in great detail at optimum small and outer wheel size- weights and their spacing- length of rack but have considered a gearing mechanism between the small gear and the outer wheel. Your comment...

re: Simple wheel idea

Hi Daanopperman If you look at the picture in question and disregard the "trapeze" and the weight on it, the outer wheel is still balanced. At the very start of the cycle, there is weight on the rack and 4 or more round the circumference of the outer wheel. The weight at 1 O'clock is balan...

re: Simple wheel idea

Hi Bill I have looked at both of these and agree they look familiar but both work on the principle that the rack is merely to move the weights back to the top and give the impression that the outer wheel will always be overbalanced due to the layout of the weights on them. we all know this is not th...

re: Simple wheel idea

Thanks Bill I can see what you mean when I look at some of these but when I look at them I do not see how any of them could actually turn. Mine does turn, accelerates and the only question is that does it accelerate enough to turn through 180 degrees..! Try this experiment and see what you think: Ge...

Simple wheel idea

Here is a description of my idea so far- If I can get it to almost work with my extremely limited knowledge and bearings from a kids toy, maybe someone on here can get it to do what I want it to do. Or maybe it will never work but it is better to have tried than done nothing at all. Thanks in antici...
