re: Analysis of MagSwitch Application
@ AB Hammer If it completes one cycle with energy gain, then we are good. As for the switch, my concern was mentioned previously. In order for me to test this, I need to come up with a torque device that will measure the torque it takes to completely turn on and off the switch under the two circumst...

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
@ all The following magnetic arrangement will not work: https://imgur.com/a/Brzup Even though that it achieves the desired pull, it acts on the x direction which will create a force exerted on the wheel. I thought then go back to the basic: https://imgur.com/a/9jqdW When the ferrous object is in the...

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
@ all I've been looking for uniform magnetic field lines in attempt to prevent stuck modes. This will allow an object to be along a plane where each point will be the same gauss. Halbach array, especially the one that is in tube formation was a starting point. I decided to mess with FEMM and came up...

re: Analysis of MagSwitch Application
@ AB Hammer
As shown in the presentation, it is stated that it takes energy to turn it on. The energy is restored when turning it back off. It is like a spring if you want to think of it that way.

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
@ sleepy I am basically advanced in the PMM design spectrum and came up with hundreds of designs. It became interesting to me to discover new situations that are not looked at closely. I didn't consider magnets because they lose their strength over time and the complexity. However, I decided that ma...

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
@ Silvertiger, Thank you for explaining your view point. I simply don't see how this will be stuck. I've been a PMM enthusiast for years. When I began investigating magnets, all those wheels that failed due to the stuck mode, I just can't figure out why the design in this thread will cause the weigh...

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
@ eccentrically Magnets act like a spring as they have their potential/kinetic energies conserved depending on various factors. That fact is not relevant to concept of this thread. @ Silvertiger I have a feeling that you didn't understand the concept. Please read the posts if you haven't. It is quit...

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
@ ME Thanks for trying to solve it. It seems like you tried to consider the wheel to move at a fast speed because you considered the centrifugal force. The reality is, in order to maintain equilibrium (stick to the wall such that such little touch will cause the steel to disconnect), the wheel must ...

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
I think it requires more experienced PMM enthusiasts to gauge the concept. If you have a physics background, it will be easier to grasp. Gravity is not blocked in this design. Gravity is needed in this design to work. Because the forces are pushing toward the axis, it is unlike the video posted a fe...

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
There are hundreds of people reading this thread. Very few actually say something.
Maybe it is too complex to you? Or it looks too simple to work?

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
@ rlortie I am using the actual polar coordinate system. I tried making it clear by using a clock, of which 9 o'clock is actually 180* and 3 o'clock being 0*. I'd rather stick with engineering polar coordinates because I rather be right than trying to suit a cultural coordinate system that was devel...

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
The strength the magnet is needed is based on the following equation magnet strength at degree of radial = abs(mg*sin(deg)) mg = steel sin(deg) = the radial direction forces (actually absorbed by the wheel when stationary and are typically not considered when calculating the torque of a PMM wheel) T...

re: Twist to Classic Wheel
@ Mikhail Thank you for the video. The video concept don't work because the magnetic pull is pulling via radial direction only, of which the radial forces do not effect the wheel. The concept I show, you have another weight on the other end further away from the center, causing an off balance. The k...
