Re: Hypothesis .. Raising GPE without using Law of Levers ? ..

Hi fletch, I have the highest regard for you and your work, so it’s with regret that I have to admit that I don’t understand what I’m seeing in your sims. That’s not your fault, but entirely mine. I’ve never been able to get a handle on sims although I get your hypotheses in general. I encourage you...

Private messenging here

I must apologise to anyone who has pm’d me, and is wondering why I haven’t responded. Sometimes I try to respond but I suspect that the intended recipient didn’t get the reply, because it is still in my outbox. So I’ve given up on using this pm service here, it’s beyond my poor old brain to understa...

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.

The Merseberg wheel was two-way and rotated at 40 rpm or more, and lift a weight of 70 pounds. This suggests that the two- way wheels were equally as powerful as the one-way wheels. I have suggested many times that the Kassel wheel was built to withstand the endurance test while still lifting the 70...

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.

I agree with fletch. I recall von Erlach and ‘sGravesand’s inspection of the Kassel wheel, “ When I turned it but gently, it always stood still as soon as I took my hand away. But when I gave it any tolerable degree of velocity, I was always obliged to stop it again by force; for when I let it go, i...

Re: MT51 Comments Enquiry ?

Alois Zimmermann emailed about this sentence in MT51 “ Hello Mr. Collins, Mr. Fletcher asked in the Forum about the last sentence of MT 51. In German the words may be: “... und also durch dessen Schwung ein motus gehoffet, Es aber in der Weisen Censur gestellet wird.” The translation could be: “... ...

Re: MT51 Comments Enquiry ?

As far as I am aware, I haven’t added anything to any translations other than a poor attempt to reread the MT notes. All the other translations were done by Mike Senior who is no longer with us. I understand what you’re point is and if I could go back in time to when Mike asked me if I wanted a word...

Re: uppermost weight

The quote is borrowed from DT, page 191.

“ …the PM device, the ‘essential constituent parts’ which must of necessity continue to exercise their motive force (derived from the PM principle) indefinitely – so long as they keep away from the centre of gravity.”

Re: MT51 Comments Enquiry ?

It’s a fair question, but after more than 17 years I can’t give you definite answer fletch. I believe that in some cases I tried to read the handwriting and was able to ‘adjust’ Andrew Witter’s translation, but sometimes I tried to improve his English grammar! In this case I obviously failed. I didn...

But he did draw a hypothetical perpetual motion machine. So he may not have been as sceptical as we might think, but didn’t want to go down that particular rabbit hole!

Re: PROCESS RESTART

It’s not so strange that Karl didn’t pay Bessler his 4000 thalers as soon he should. John Rowley frequently had to wait for his several payments usually two years or more and it wasn’t shortage of cash. From my book “PMAAMS?” - “The Landgrave's mental and physical powers had since about 1726 gradual...

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.

From my book PMAAMS? Wolff’s letter, re Merseburg wheel… “.. At the moment it can lift a weight of sixty pounds, but to achieve this the pulley had to be reduced more than four times, making the lifting quite slow. The diameter of the wheel is about twelve feet, and as well, the bearing was quite th...

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.

Don’t patent it. Too expensive, takes too long. It won’t protect the device against any improvements. You would be chasing your tail for ever trying to prevent anyone anywhere in the world copying your design not to mention improving it. And If you publish the design and explain it, it’s then in the...

To Nick. “ John I do beg your pardon, it is indeed DT that I was looking for in German and Latin... I have your electronic copy of the whole thing, with English translation. But ideally I would like electronic copies of the German and Latin also... Are those available online?”. Yes but if you’ve got...
