2 way ratchet

Post by arjay30 »

As i see it my 2 way ratchet would need no springs
gravity and motion would replace the spring.
and holes in the axel for the arms to lock in.

so what do you think

dear arjay30,
Many thanks for sharing your idea.
I built this device, using two freewheels in counterwise mode on the same shaft.
The result appeared as poor and not really useful.
Depending of the quality of the freewheel you will obtain:
- either a fixed rod (equivalent to a single pendulum including now the shaft) if the both freewheels are perfect
- either a pendulum with a very short swing path if there is a latency in the locking process of each freewheel.

The association of two freewheels in the same direction is much more interesting.
The optimum situation should occur when a freewheel takes the relay of the other one (and vice-versa). Unfortunately the two pendula follow the well known rule of the synchronization.
So far I made also the experiment with two pendula completely different in size and mass, without significant results also.
I cannot imagine why nobody though on this before, including myself? It is so simple!...
