The idea seems pertinent and the video hereafter shows the corresponding mechanism.
So far was the game of the children simply some marbles?
For sure some members will made the objection this demonstrator is horizontal. No problem, because a mechanical feature has been implemented for assuming a constant pressure of the two external disks on the marbles.
The population of marbles has been selected high enough (16 in this case) for creating a sufficient average of contacts.
IMHO if Bessler used this method, this could explain the high number of cylinders (tricky designated as 'weights') which could have a double function: -1: a kind of 'roller bearing' and -2: a high inertia flywheel.

The first shot shows the completed mechanism of the primemover.
The front side shall be grounded.
The middle disk will support the cage for the pendula wich will be located in the rear area.
The rear disk (rotating two times faster than the precedent one) will support the elbows of the two linkage sets.
The second shot displays some details on the four couple of pressure rollers.
As said and for a good contact we need a compression feature between the two external planes.
The method I used is perhaps not the smart one, but seems to be efficient.
Everything looks like simple, but needs an important time consuming work.
But that's the price, any approximated building almost driving to an unworkable and unsuccessful result.
The front side shall be grounded.

Many thanks for the encouragement, it's a hard job to convert a concept into a practical real device, in particular with limited technical means.
In addition I'm not sure it will work!...

The latest building of the wheel, based on the Raj Balkee concept.
In this state the wheel rotates alone only the half time, for a good reason: there is only ONE couple of pendula.
There is no mechanical way for the mechanism to drive TWO sets of pendula.
The solution is either to duplicate the mechanism on the alternate side of the wheel, either to implement one single mechanism like a pedalier, in the middle plane of the wheel (but with some not minor changes).
Nevertheless the validity of the concept is confirmed (with a second set we shall obtain a full turn).

Thinking about the different way possible for a very simple speed doubler, I remembered the famous experiment of the two coins
(see here again: http://poncelet.math.nthu.edu.tw/disk3/gc-01/5/3.html)
where the second coin rolling around the first one rotates TWO turns on itself.
So far a mechanism including FOUR gears rolling around a central gear (all of the same size) is useful because the generation of four rotations at twice the speed of the frame supporting the rollers (supposing the center gear is grounded).
Then, instead to try to find a way for recenter this double speed rotation within the central axis, my though was: is there any way to use this double speed at its original location? Surprisingly I discovered that the Raj's concept could be applied directly on each of the four excentered axles instead on the main central axis, like tried until now.
The next animation shows the corresponding mechanism, where the grounded gear/drum is in yellow, and the four rollers in green.
For time consuming reasons I cannot remove the four red circles of the single couple of pendula: try to ignore them.
There are eight weights in this wheel, but as you can observe there always four weights mutually balanced.
A first good news was the absence of collision between two consecutive pendula set.
Another good news: one of the two attachment point for each pendula set is centered, allowing a pass-through central shaft (so far more reliable). If for some reason (the fixation of the central gear per example) we need to keep the central axis free for passing a shaft, there is no disconvenience to dispose the attachment points all around the center, very close from the central shaft. This can explain the strange shape of the Bessler wheel's shaft, including a central shaft and around it eight rods for the attachment of the pendula sets.

Nothing is needed for the standing position of the weight on the center axis: no stop pin, neither any spring.
The reason for that has been examinated here:

and has been confirmed by at least four different building since this posting.

Based on the Raj Balkee concept, hereafter is a design on order 3 : is this the principle of the flowerbowl (trilobed disk of Sabu)?

The interesting question is: do we still need the gear linkage of the previous above animation? Perhaps this question was coming from my latest experiments, using the demonstrator I built for that purpose (see the shot below). I work always simultaneously on several buildings.
