Search for the least friction bearing

Post by beapilot »

Hi,

Could anyone please link me to the least friction mounted bearing that is 3/4" in diameter? It should require the least amount of force to bring it into motion.

Thanks!

ID or OD? Check out some videos of ceramic bearings.

Hey beapilot,

I've bought some inexpensive skateboard bearings from this place to use in one of my builds:

http://www.vxb.com/

...and I think I got them even a little cheaper than the list price through one of their ebay auctions.

They seem to have quite a selection of bearings - with different styles, sizes and quality - and from reading some posts on some skateboard forums, their stuff is supposed to be pretty good for the price.

I believe it is a California company which sells bearings made (mostly?) in Japan.

The cheap bearings I got were certainly more than good enough for me.

If you want the really fancy low resistance ceramic bearings, though, it may cost you.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

The reason I went here because the bearings I bought from vxb did not meet what it advertised. Their linear motion bearings stall and get jammed constantly as the mounted require a considerable amount of force. Their customer team responded that they are just a distributing place and not a tech support, thus couldn't point me out some low friction bearings.

There appears to be some heavy duty 3/4" stuff here:

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/catalog ... SEARCH+ALL

just $5.84 each at
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R ... reId=10051

I noticed a few years back that Sports Authority sells SOME
bearings for skates + skateboards etc. Don't know
about the size. Probably too small.

If you have found the secret of Bessler's wheel, then a nylon bearing would work fine.

I agree. If the wheel produces excess rotational force, then any type of bearings will work.
