Scott please do away with the rating system.....
Or enforce it. I am not asking you to spend countless hours looking through posts of new members just please delete the members when it is discovered that they have been booted off before or give someone else the authority. Some of these clowns have RUINED more than one forum. THANKS
. I can assure the reader that there is something special behind the stork's bills.
re: Scott please do away with the rating system.....
If you are talking about bad language, name calling, and general rudeness then I agree. But I know several people that wanted pequaide voted off the site; and I have the best ideas here.
I suggest that you make yourself a list of non-reads. I have a list of four people I simply will not read their posts. And they have been polite enough to not post on my thread. You are the man with the mouse you don't have to read anything that you don't want to.

pequaide, justsomeone,
I believe the rating system works fine, it is the member consensus that should get off the butt and cast the vote.
You (pequaide) for example carry the rank of "appreciated" I do not agree with a lot of what you post, and ceased posting on your thread a long time ago.
I do not judge your reputation by your research nor claim any privilege against your right to publish it. Therefore you and a number of members here have never received a red or green hit on my part.
When James Lindgaard was given the opportunity to rejoin this forum it was with the promise that he would not revert to his old ways. He has not lived up to said promise, and should be by all means be voted "out", all it takes is the click on the red icon.
I do not believe that Scott should give one person the authority to ban a member, it would not take long for that person to find themselves between a rock and a hard spot. The system is set up so that all can have a say, with the majority of voters deciding the outcome.
I would however go for the concept of Scott setting up a caucus of say five reputable members that would vote on a questionable members standing. The outcome of that vote would then be passed on to Scott.
IIRC this idea was approached some time back but the inciting member was banned before the caucus/monitor idea was put into action.

How does the reputation rating system play any part in application of the website terms of use?
Pequaide, community is easily degraded by 'best' ideas.

Pequaide, My post had nothing to do with you. ;) Ralph, my whole point is when someone gets voted off....keep them off! How many times do we have to vote Jim off?
. I can assure the reader that there is something special behind the stork's bills.
re: Scott please do away with the rating system.....
I give James Lindgaard (Jim) some red dot!
re: Scott please do away with the rating system.....
ovyyus: Oh; you mean the site is looking for mediocre ideas? If anyone does not think his ideas are best then he should not post. The community is degraded by mediocrity.
Re: re: Scott please do away with the rating system.....
My opinion is; the reputation system does not play a part in website terms.ovyyus wrote:How does the reputation rating system play any part in application of the website terms of use?
Website terms play a big part in application of the reputation system. I do not give red dots for ones beliefs or level of intelligence, it takes a breach of website terms to earn one from me
Violate the website terms and you will end up being the subject of a thread such as this one.
When James Lindgaard rejoined this forum I did not immediately 'red dot' him, I waited for his first breach of website terms (which did not take long) and then hit the red button.
I agree that it takes a little effort and support from members to ban a sock-puppet every time they return. If they state who they are, give them reasonable doubt, wait until they break site terms.
I also find it interesting to see how long it takes for dedicated members to oust a returnee that breaks the rules whether they identify themselves or not.

I don't understand this old man fear of sock puppets. Not everyone wants to be identified by their personal name on the internet - especially if they have a unique name. Surely the content of their posts is much more important than if you know who they are. And what if they choose to use multiple id's ... what are you afraid of?
I agree that obvious trolls who have nothing to contribute should be banished. I was seriously contributing to this site at one time, and I was banished and had my IP address locked out - so I can't contribute anything from my work location, which is where I have my best ideas and want to contribute the most. My fatal error? I chose to log into this site from work one day; couldn't remember my password so I created a new account. That made me an evil sock puppet. Oooo - so scary for you!
The rating system is useless - let's face it. I think the biggest troll here who posts hundreds of relatively useless posts is still "respected". He is flooding the forum with posts that bump all the good threads down into obscurity - which I guess is the intent. If he just wants to post an encouraging "thought for the day" he do this in ONE thread which would constantly be bumped to the top - if that was the intent.
I could contribute a lot more, but I only want to discuss ideas that seem like they have a reasonable chance of actual success.
We all have our personal flaws - you have to be a bit crazy to even pursue this topic at all. Bessler was a weirdo too. He wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes here.

Ahh the rating system...
It's flawed and serves no purpose.
There are a number of problems other than sock puppets.. Like useless trolling, useless members, useless posting, thread hijacking..
In fact, just ban Murilo and you'll be alright ... :P

Just my 2 million:
WORST than all is to deal with nickname guys in this forum! 8(
I bet as if they were with their real names in open they would be, at least, a bit shy! Just a bit would be enough! 8)

Your point is understood; I find it irritating to be notified of a new post. Log in to read it, and find nothing but a "Smiley" or a "hand Clap" icon.LustInBlack wrote:Ahh the rating system...

The rating system can be used to eliminate the cause and effect of these time consuming posts. When the responsible posters rating start dropping, they might catch the drift!
True! How much integrity can one give to a person that wishes to hide behind a pseudonym on a member only forum? Do not misunderstand me, I have no objections to pseudonyms as long as we can refer to their given surnames or know who we are communicating with via private mail.WORST than all is to deal with nickname guys in this forum!

There! you see the system does work. Did not take long did it!
Thank you Grimer for recognizing the cause and effect.
