It has the advantage of the Middle Ages "classic" counterweight trebuchet (spiral lauching trajectory) ,in a simplified design (without a track).

So,in my opinion it's a "reinvented" trebuchet...prompting us to imagine a "modified trebuchet", as a possible self moving device,due to gravity fall and inertia.

It's an interesting modified trebuchet,with a proposal with a better lauching arm :it works as a triple inverted pendulum (so with connection to a "stronger" chaotic motion...).

In my opinion,some pendular arrangement seems to work as temporarily "attractors" for the ("outside") mechanical chaotic motion...

If we imagine a control of this motion,we can use it for the "missing" energy source ,and also for the "missing" short arm-long arm sequence/top point switch/, of a gravity motor (see "Trebuchet vs. gravity motor..." topic).

If a mounted rim at rest were accelerated by a weighted string wrapped around the circumference of the rim none would predict that the unwinding weight could give the rim anything but its momentum. But when the opposite transfer of motion is achieved a different prediction is made, and energy conservation is claimed by most. But I predict that it is still going to be momentum conservation.

If the trebuchet motion transfer is done properly the descending mass can be stopped.

Note the arm's follow through at the point of the throw.

It may not look like a wheel but it is. The point of rotation drops and moves left and right. And the throwing radius is longer than the drive mass radius, but it still functions like a wheel and it appears to stop.

Here , it seems that I have a confusion point of view :who teaches whom?

They play the jerking motion,an abrupt thrust applying the acceleration of acceleration (the third derivative of position with respect to time).

When you drive your car,with a bump,you apply the same rule of physics...

By the way,the jerk/yank game ...is not an exclusive one ...I mean the Yankees !

But,as a matter of fact,US is the country with the most interesting trebuchet public contests,disputes , and as a consequence with a better chance as a gate-crasher for the next Aquarius Age (energy/gravity motor + 3D motion/pulsatory inertial propulsion).

A wonder can be nothing more than a different point of view about our real world ...if we open and play our personal knowledge "windows".
