Ectropy and Maxwell's Demon.

re: Ectropy and Maxwell's Demon.
It's not possible to hide one's visits to the forum since all a person has to do is to go to the Memberlist and click on "Last visit. Descending, Sort".
Though it may say "hidden" for a particular member one merely has to look at the times on either side to know well enough when the member visited.
For instance, Cloud's last visit was between 6.52 and 6.59 BST.
Putting "Hidden" in one's profile is therefore rather futile.

Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terribilis ut castrorum acies ordinata?
re: Ectropy and Maxwell's Demon.
Grimer, whether or not it's feasible to remain hidden is irrelevant to my question. Cloud camper intentionally selected the 'remain hidden' feature on the forum and I wonder why he (I only assume it's a he) might choose to do that and also why he chose to not include any info about himself in his profile.
Of course, these are options that Scott has made freely available to everyone. But I always find it curious that someone might want to be part of a community while at the same time not disclose their identity or even when they're logged on. Around my neck of the woods people walk around at night in hoodies for only one of two reasons: they're cold or they're a robber. Cloud camper doesn't seem like a robber and it doesn't seem cold, hence my curiosity.

Yeah, why leave your personal information blank and remain hidden when you can avoid Bill's scrutiny by just lying on your profile and using a web proxy like me?
Okay, just kidding...
I left my profile blank, too.
You think I want people to be able to easily find out I associate with perpetual motion nuts?!
I'd much rather the Google search on my name show that poor African-American convict or that crazy European-American preacher instead!
...uh oh... I've said too much.
...lol

What if I am receiving private messages from the young, attractive female
forum members and I don't want them to know how old and ugly I am?

So Debbie is sending you private messages? I doubt it. She's not your type. She's too smart. Besides, I saw her first.

jim_mich,
Would a serious member here constantly avoid answering serious questions posed by others? Would he obfuscate? Would he denigrate?
Others here may have very good reasons why they choose to remain anonymous. You know, those who practice our little "hobby" aren't necessarily looked upon with a great deal of respect by those in the mainstream.
Some here may even have jobs, professional careers, actual "lives" and things like that they have to worry about and so just find it easier to remain a bit incognito. Of course, though, why others might choose to remain anonymous really isn't even my business.
So, you want serious? I'm seriously thinking about using the forum's reputation system for the very first time to give you a red dot, because you've seriously been acting like a "butthead". (Notice I didn't say you were a butthead, but that you were just acting like one. Can I get away with phrasing it that way, too? ...or do I have to actually be you or on YOUR list of "serious" members?)
You might want to be careful, for it seems that even some on your serious list have already expressed similar thoughts.
I find your recent bullying behavior to be a bit obnoxious, to be honest.
Is that serious enough for you?
Maybe you should consider apologizing. ...or find a schoolyard where you could find some real competition.
(...and as far as pictures go, you really wouldn't want to see my ugly butthead, anyway... ...lol)

What goes around, comes around.
Serious? I thought this was the insane asylum, where all those afflicted with Bessler's insanity came to hang out?Furcurequs wrote:Would a serious member here constantly avoid answering serious questions posed by others? Would he obfuscate? Would he denigrate?
Ok, I'll get serious. I only denigrate those who denigrate me.
Who should I apologize to? Should I apologize to Murilo? For what? Years ago I tried to help Murilo. When my calculations and my custom written computer programs showed that his avalanche drive was impossible and can never work, he turned on me in anger. Then he kept posting his avalanche drive in everyone's threads. Go look at Murilo's album. He posted it about 50 times. And he has denigrated me many more times than I him. So am I supposed to apologize to Murilo? I think he owes me a very big apology.Furcurequs wrote:Maybe you should consider apologizing. ..
Do you think I should apologize to cloud camper. He kept trying to dig information from me that I'm not at liberty to release. Then he starts talking about CF. And it was so very obvious to me that he didn't know what he was talking about. And he says that I don't know what I'm talking about. The only way to prove him wrong is to divulge how a mechanism can use CF to gain energy. And because I don't give him that information, he makes an ass of himself by making all sorts of accusations against me. So do I need to apologize to cloud camper? I think he owes me a very big apology for all his false assumptions and accusations against me.
re: Ectropy and Maxwell's Demon.
Jim, i understand your frustration but we are talking about stuff that can not be proven, may be you should both say sorry to each other let it be and maybe a friend ship will develop, some times the best friend ships start with conflict other times it just gets worse and nothing can help that, but i think we should all try the best we can to stay positive and supportive and honest Andy
Only by making mistakes can you truly learn
re: Ectropy and Maxwell's Demon.
Respect is built on integrity, a man who stands his ground right or wrong gains respect by not abiding with the questionable law of the herd. So when Jim_Mich writes: "The only way to prove him wrong is to divulge how a mechanism can use CF to gain energy."
Either divulge or build and patent first. IMO There is no other option. No one is going to be able to prove you wrong without knowing the exact concept you are debating over. So you have the ball, what are you going to do with it?
Why not simply ignore the topic with one another until you can make the opposing eat crow, If you do not succeed then you eat the crow. No honor is lost admitting your wrong. That is, providing you do not keep digging deeper in the barrel.

Neither! No need to lie, it is up to Murilo to prove you wrong and up to you to prove to Cloud Camper you are right and he is wrong. Do not demean yourself into sucking up to those that disagree with what you predominantly believe will work.jim_mich wrote:Andy, which guy am I supposed to lie to? Murilo or Cloud Camper?
Murilo is standing ground with his design, you are doing likewise with your Cf design. You are telling Murilo that it will not work. Cloud Camper is telling you yours will not work.
Tarsier79 tells me my latest attempt will not work, he does not have the faintest clue as to what it is other than fluids. He has me on his "ignore" list, so he claims. That is fine with me, I am not inclined to debate about it one way or the other. In all cases the proof shall be found in the pudding!
Get off the internet, oil up the lathe and get your hands dirty.
