Avatar Animations

Post by Gill Simo »

Hi....could someone tell me how to set up an avitar such as Path-finder's and others.....the annimated type?
Please bear in mind that simple as the proceedure might be, it's quite probably over complicated to a pc numpty such as me.
Thanks/Gill

Scott has set the following avatar limits:
Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 80 pixels, the height no greater than 80 pixels, and the file size no more than 6 KB. (Note: remotely linked avatars will be automatically resized)
It is challenging to get an animated GIF picture to meet these limits. GIF picture by default are 255 color and if you have a lot of solid colors they will compress nicely. GIF pictures can be animated. Depending upon how much detail verse solid color the pictures have, you can get anywhere from about 8 to 18 frames compressed into a 6 KB files that meet the forum limits.

To make an animated GIF requires a program that takes the individual GIF pictures and puts them into a single animated GIF file. I use a very old obsolete Microsoft program. I don't even remember the exact program name right now or I would post it. (I'm on my laptop, away from my home computer where my GIF animator program is located.)

Once you have an animated GIF then just upload it to your personal profile.

I didn't realize or had forgotten about the 6kb limit. I don't mind doubling or tripling that if it would make life easier.
