Chistoso keep walking.....very funny,
A water fountain or water fall is definately in the plans. You are right, all Latin American places have fountains.
I still like the idea of doing a kickstarter project to fund the patent and sell/manufacturing of the water pump. The only drawback I see is that I doubt anyone will fund the project with out seeing how it works. If it fails then I have not lost anythings......Still thinking on this one.
I delivered the Barrel yesterday, it is 62 gallons. We are welding the pump to the tank for the first test.
still walking

Yep, Jon... still walking on that same old game!
Down here we joke a lot about small places mayors... their fountains but no schools, no health care and no insurance... the 'politiqueiros'...
These guys are just the kindergarten of those great paranoid thieves/killers at our congresses. (in Latrine America, for sure! 8(

Ok, motor and pump attached to the barrel, riser pipe of 7" which will return water to barrel for the pump and the final test is a bit more difficult. 6" id with a 7"od will work perfect but I do not need 20' @ $200.00 just 3' so I will have one made at a tin shop for $10.00. Here goes another 4 days waiting.

Here is the project as of friday. I laughed as one of the helpers tried to hide from the camera at the machine shop here in Guatemala. I decided to post it anyway. I am doing a pre test into the 62 gallon drum because I made a small change to the heart of the pump. The small change represents an attempt to squeeze a few more gpm out of the pump that I have not experimented with before. The problem I see is that the results may be hindered by poor quality of the pump itself......being made here in Guatemala. For example the casing is made with oxidized parts, makeshift front mech seal (does not require rear seal) and I am playing around with pump speeds for max gpm, but this effects gpm because of resistance of pulley. I am using a 2hp motor 220 volt, with a speed of 3653 but am reducing it down to 1532. This produces a shut off head of 489 feet. I am going to be doing a test tuesday, but from the looks I should wear my swim suit....don't worry I definitely will not take pictures of me in my swimsuit.....I don't want to crash this board.

Well, I did the pre-test to check for leaks. The machinist is obviously not a plummer. We got the leaks under control and turned on the 2 hp motor from a safe distance. There was so much pressure going up the 3 1/2 foot 7 1/2 inch sheet metal stove pipe from making a u-turn to shoot the water back into the barrel that it shot completely past the barrel in a solid tube of water and drenched what little was dry from all the leaks. I did not expect that much water, and I sure didn't expect that much smoke to pour from the wet cool motor. Before the smoke and while there was still water in the barrel I did do a rpm test and an amp test. I approximate that it would of filled a 5 gallon bucket in 2 seconds or less, at 9 amps at 1532 rpm's. We had a person on hand that rebuilds motors, which was good and bad. After receiving a good tongue lashing for buying a cheap Brazilian motor (sorry if anyone here is from Brazil) he wisked it off to check for damage. The test showed me all I wanted to see. The small change was well worth it that I made to the workings of the pump.
My next step is to take off the mechanical seal which was a retro fit with too much friction (It took too much effort to turn with my hand) and use a simply seal, replace six bolts that were audible rubbing on the front plate with counter sink heads, do away with the stove pipe for 6 inch pvc and pvc elbows. Then put the pump and motor into a pool for the real test. No more playing around getting wet.
While doing the test a friend who drives a water tanker truck that works for the mayor came to watch. He compared (ok it was a brief comparison) the water pressure and quantity with his 3 hp on his tanker to the 2 hp I was using. Our output was about 5 to 1.
Now more people are around this project to give real help. A machinist, A motor technician and people here to offer great ideas.

Good, Jon!
And stay away of Brazilians, Jon!

You might want to find out from your motor technician the efficiency of the motor.
220V x 9A = 1980 watts = 2.65522374 horsepower

Thanks for pointing this out. I could of been mistaken. I found out later that the mechanical seal was way too tight and caused the winding to burn along with one of the starter caps. I am repairing the motor and starting again with a simple o ring style seal. I am thinking of using a direct coupled link to the shaft of the pump and using a hertz adjustment for speed instead of a v- belt which has too much resistance. The first start up test and numbers were not accurate in my opinion although it sure did throw out alot of water, without accurate number it really does not mean much.

Here are some experiments that we have done recently I'm still working on the pump I had a setback because I decided to redo a design in the heart of the pump which turned out to be a waste of time. I decided to get a 3d printer so that I can make a minute changes and not have to take so much machine time in the shop to see the results I'm still working on this its showing good results here's some videos of past experiments.

what we have decided to do is produce some data videos pictures without giving away what the main part of the pump is and then do a project on Kickstarter. if it fails we have lost nothing if it succeeds then we will get Pat. money and start-up money costs.

I need an electric drill for my tools. My cigarette lighter is damaged. So i need a new one with drill. But where i can find them. Please give me some online link for it.jim_mich wrote:Cool! An emergency sump pump for when the electricity fails.
I have an electric drill (like many guys), a 15 amp converter that plugs into a cigarette lighter, a hundred feet of extension cord - enough to reach down to the basement, so all I would need is your pump and about 6 feet of hose or pipe. Can the pump be made for about $15 so that it can sell for about $39.95?
How long would it take to pump 3000 gallons six feet up out of my basement? I hope I never have that much water on my basement floor!!
