Any good freeware HD mov. editors out there ?

Post by nicbordeaux »

Now guys, I know for sure I can build a self-sustaining machine and all that stuff, the problem is doing detailed analysis of what my builds are doing. My camera is mov (HD) format, which Windows movie maker won't handle. What I'm looking for is a intuitive mov editor which allows you to do what WMM does : cut, copy, paste, accelerate, slow down . Ideally it would allow frame by frame visualization.

Because, honestly, I don't mind saving the world, but darned if I'm spending money in doing so ;-)

Any suggestions ?
If you think you have an overunity device, think again, there is no such thing. You might just possibly have an unexpectedly efficient device. In which case you will be abducted by MIB and threatened by aliens.

Ditto.

I also could use a good movie editor that works intuitively so that it doesn't take me forever to learn how to use it.

It has been years since I've played with it since I moved to Linux, but I believe the program Virtualdub might do at least some of what you are looking for with the proper codecs installed. It might also let you save to another format, too, if need be so as to let you use your other editing software.

Some information on installing the necessary codecs if you need it:

...erm, it looks like you might have to copy and paste that url because of its extension and/or spaces in it.

There may be a few other free programs listed here (in blue), though not all the free ones are for Windows, of course:

I hope this is helpful.

ETA: That videohelp site looks like it lists just about everything out there, so you might want to check this page out, too, for editors or whatever:

ETA2: If I remember correctly, Virtualdub does let you step through videos frame by frame and even loop sections.
I don't believe in conspiracies!
I prefer working alone.
