Any good freeware HD mov. editors out there ?

Now guys, I know for sure I can build a self-sustaining machine and all that stuff, the problem is doing detailed analysis of what my builds are doing. My camera is mov (HD) format, which Windows movie maker won't handle. What I'm looking for is a intuitive mov editor which allows you to do what WMM does : cut, copy, paste, accelerate, slow down . Ideally it would allow frame by frame visualization.

Because, honestly, I don't mind saving the world, but darned if I'm spending money in doing so ;-)

I also could use a good movie editor that works intuitively so that it doesn't take me forever to learn how to use it.

It has been years since I've played with it since I moved to Linux, but I believe the program Virtualdub might do at least some of what you are looking for with the proper codecs installed. It might also let you save to another format, too, if need be so as to let you use your other editing software.

ETA2: If I remember correctly, Virtualdub does let you step through videos frame by frame and even loop sections.
