It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

The First approach'd the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a wall!"

The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, -"Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!"

The Third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a snake!"

The Fourth reached out his eager hand,
And felt about the knee.
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain," quoth he,
"'Tis clear enough the Elephant
Is very like a tree!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said: "E'en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a fan!"

The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Then, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a rope!"

And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

MORAL.

So oft in theologic wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!

Because of your work, I thought you might be interested in this if you haven't yet seen it.

The PBS program Secrets of the Dead did an episode entitled "Resurrecting King Richard III" in which they examined his recently found bones to try to determine his health and fitness level when he died in battle. They also had a fellow with an apparently quite similar scoliosis condition to his - with a very curved spine - specially fitted with a suit of medieval armor by an armorer and trained him for three months to do a re-enactment of King Richard's final battle.

I am some what jealous of the availability of the armorers for the museums. All their resources to match what they do to the originals. I have been building for heavy combat in stainless most of the time and I look forward to building with the thinner period materials for they are so much more forgiving when I am on my 100% dissability. I want to build some armor for myself to display in my home for once.

I'm sure the period materials would be much easier to work with, and I know what you mean about the resources. Reminds me of the quarter of college I worked in the robot design group at IBM. They had a complete machine shop staffed with machinists who were ready and waiting and able to whip out any part needed at a moments' notice.

...but that always seemed to be the trade off, at least for me, do your own thing with limited time and resources or have the time and resources you need to do other people's things instead.

I'm rather impressed with your work, btw. Nice pieces of armor.

I just got an update on my VA case. It is now up for approval. I know one will be approved but it is just an adjustment but the other, is to give me 100% unemployable which gives me 100% disability pay. That will free me from working myself to death and I will have real wheel time. I shiver with anticipation and finger and toes crossed. 8)
