.

Looks good !

I believe the conversion rate of chemical energy to electrical energy in a fuel cell is much better than most other methods .

At the very least this type of system looks like it should replace coal fired generators and maybe nuclear .

If they also work on capturing the generated carbon dioxide it will be a major step forward.

I hope it Blooms ! Its nice to have some decent competition to keep the standards up : )

Looks like it still needs an energy source or "fuel", suggested in the video as natural gas.

Natural gas can run a turbine to produce electricity. Why would I use a bloom box?

Having three natural gas powered generating plants located within a 20 mile radius of me, I did some deeper research into this Bloom Box.

First off it will run on bio fuel, methane or any combustible. It is alleged to be 30% more efficient than the traditional steam turbine method.

I located a lot of info but did not bookmark any of it. What I did find were incentives for going green offered by state and federal, accelerated tax depreciation and gain in no grid resistance losses.

You save anywhere from two to four cents per kilowatt hour with an average pay back in 7 years. It does have its advantages, in the long run it beats cost and reliability over wind and solar.

OK, so more efficiency at a higher price for the equipment.

One of their selling points is "no combustion." How does burning natural gas = no combustion? Solar and wind have no emmisions. To me Bloom Box is no major technological advancement.

While its not a "major' technological development ,- as in a perpetual motion machine development (which I'm sure is only a few more days away ) , it does appear to be a significant advancement in fuel cell technology .

The fact that a company the size of Google claims to produce 15 % of their energy IIRC using a small block of them indicates that it is a viable system .

If the amount of electricity currently being produced worldwide by coal fired generating plants was replaced by fuel cells with a 30% increased efficiency then this alone would more than compensate many times over for the lack of current national improvement targets for CO2 pollution reduction .We Australians especially should cringe at our Governments target of a measly 5% reduction of CO2 . Shit - we could meet this target by putting one of those little cube sized Bloom boxes in each of our politicians state owned vehicles that they so enjoy transporting in : ).

One of the nice things about fuel cells IMO is that they are nice and quiet . I would like a little cube sized one to hook up to a 9 litre bottled gas container that I could take camping and would produce enough quiet energy to keep my beer and steak cold and my bed warm without frightening the wildlife and have enough capacity to recharge my electric car when I want to move on .
