Self Resetting Pendulums
had this idea in a dream. posting here to see if it has any merit or may possibly inspire a better idea....before I forget about it completely :)

.....it's not a dream , but a possible real test if we play a particular coupling between an ( unstable ) inverted pendulum and a (common ) stable pendulum , or nearby balanced as a nearby unbalanced couple of pendulums ...

Every half turn , we need to reset ( in some manner...this is the only one problem...) the pair of pendulums : the inverted pendulum as a driver , the common pendulum as a follower ...so to experience self-motion , maybe.
Sometimes a dream , sometimes a vision can be a first step or the seed of our science.
