A new IDE (Integrated Development Environment)

Post by path_finder »

(in particular for Jim_Mich)
If you are tired to fight against the MS-VisualBasic code, there is an interesting alternative since the 1st of January 2012: gambas3 is available free (under Linux/Mac-OSX GPL license) here:
http://gambas.sourceforge.net/en/main.html
It is very impressive. I tried it and found it powerful, versatile and really completed, with many features (full graphic GUI, databases, networking, Web, runtime, multinational, examples, etc.). An excellent replacement for MS-VB.
I cannot imagine why nobody though on this before, including myself? It is so simple!...

Hey path_finder,

I found this topic when looking through unanswered posts. Thanks for the link. I'll probably be trying this out.

Also, during my days when I used to frequent a usenet newsgroup devoted to Windows freeware, I happened across a free Visual Basic clone. I believe this is it. It used to be called Envelop but is now called Phoenix Object Basic.

It is an older program, but it may still be of use to someone. It's not open source yet (I don't think), but there are free binary versions for both Windows and Linux:

There's info here and even more under the "Phoenix" pulldown menu - including lots of documentation:

Here are couple more free basic programs that may be worth a look that are available for both Windows and Linux:

...and...
