How much horse power?

Ovyyus, If he didn't know then he didn't deceive.
But a heat-source, or anything related, was still never mentioned.
No broken pipes, steam, smoke, smell, perhaps sounds of liquids, sudden puffing noises (out of sync with the banging sound)...
Some people peeked through cracks in the wood, but never mentioned some warm glow.
It would be perfect (!) from the start, no leakage of any kind, neatly sealed, contained, and whatever... and all rotating within a wooden wheel - which seemed to be unexpectedly lightweight when moved around.
One of the most likely (perhaps only) candidate is some magnet (magnetite or lodestone). If using huge polished chunks as prime-mover than he would have known, and perhaps reason enough to keep such a secret.

Wow that is a lot to think about and very interesting. I'm not sure what I think about but it's definitely food for thought. Thanks for sharing that.Grimer wrote:As the scientist to whom your remark was not directed in particular ;-) I agree with you entirely. Not only that but many if not most scientific discoveries come about by accident rather than by design.John doe wrote:This is not directed at anyone in particular just a thought on why scientists generally don't make the best inventors and or why accidents are so often the cause of inventions.

However, it takes a prepared mind to recognise the significance of that accident or anomaly, in my case to recognise that my concrete stress strain relationships were telling me that things are held together from without, not from within, and that bonds, like the housewife's vacuum cleaner suck, are simply negations, simply a deficit of some external pressure.

And being an inquisitive chap no doubt you will ferret out all the other goodies on the site.
I used to think I was being original but I've recently discovered that Tesla has said it all before. A bit like Mendel and his peas isn't it. Who remembers the name of his resurrector.

Yes, here's a quote from Tesla.
"A Good example for such an interaction becomes apparent in gravitation, which should be rather named as universal compression. I think the material bodies do not gravitate between each other but it is the ether that makes one material body to press to another."
Great minds think alike. :-)

Nice to see you signed the above post with your real name! But you should really be called "evil idiot" with the rubbish you post on here.
Yes, it was rather evil wasn't it. Sorry.
I apologise. Won't happen again.

Hi Grimer ,
" I suppose a centripetal force field would be one where items less dense than the surrounding medium are driven to the centre. "
If you pour a spoon full of suger or salt in a glass of water it will sink to the bottom so it is denser than water , yet when stirred the crystals will migrate to the center when the centrifugal force is supposed to fling them to the outside as they are denser than the water .

The forces of tea: tea leaf paradox
(actually 'water' but that didn't rhyme).

WHEN next you visit one of England's Tate museums, spare a thought for the slaves on whose backs the Tate & Lyle sugar empire originally rose. The British empire itself owed its existence, and much of its ultimate wealth, to a scatter of Caribbean islands dedicated to the dual exploitation of “white and “black gold.daanopperman wrote:By the way , the only good thing that came from British Rule was TATE and LYLE .

No. I don't think so. Reason being most jurists sitting on a bench back in those days would acknowledge there was an eternal God that would cause barometric pressure to increase and decrease forever.ovyyus wrote:Hypothetically, suppose James Cox kept his 'true PM' clock secret before selling it to a buyer. Could an unhappy buyer successfully dispute the 'true PM' definition of Cox's clock in a mid-1760's court of law?

re: How much horse power?
My guess is the least of the jurists, who perhaps did not believe in an eternal god, would also acknowledge the perpetual nature of barometric changes. Therefore, up to and including the 1760's a 'true PM' might legitimately include machines that harness environmental energy input.WaltzCee wrote:No. I don't think so.
