But .. it raises the question off association - is a polymath necessarily intelligent or is a polymath ability highly correlated to intelligence ?

Perseverance is key here: "a man can do all things if he will" + "people should embrace all knowledge and develop their capacities as fully as possible". Intelligence or being "gifted" seems to help.

I think there's a difference in learning quickly [as in: blindly memorizing knowledge], and intelligent behavior [as in: applying knowledge to an unknown situation... which only now becomes new knowledge].
An IQ test is mostly about recognizing a pattern quickly: which could be either knowledge or intelligence.
But I agree, for a polymath knowledge needs to have come via intelligence: perhaps an undetectable distinction.

The whole point of a definition is that it is 'something that works' for everyone. That was the case until JM decided it didn't suit his agenda.

It was Jim's own (proposed) definition all along... there was no vote, no general acceptance, not a law for all to follow not even by himself.
Very "nice" of Jim to share his definition. Perhaps we can convert that list for our own benefit, but that doesn't mean it works as-it-is for all.... Possibly he stumbled over his own definition himself.

If you honestly believe he is a polymath or he is only stubborn fine, but mediation through polishing his ego only feeds him.

And in the process I wrote: "First get something that works!" This means a working wheel, not just a concept or idea." I have never before or since described the first step in this manner or way. And I will never again describe the first step in that manner. Such was a mistake by me back then and an error on my part. From the many other posts where MY PLAN was discussed, it is very evident that MY meaning of the first step was to First get something viable.

Even the great and powerful Ovyyus wrote: Step 1: solve the problem. Thus, even he agreed that the first step was to solve the problem, and was not the building of a working wheel. The solution must first be envisioned, then analyzed, then built as the final certification.
