Policy Change -- Sockpuppets & Reputation System

re: Policy Change -- Sockpuppets & Reputation System
Don't worry too much Mark, some people always blame others for their problems.
re: Policy Change -- Sockpuppets & Reputation System
I didn't ask a question. I made a proposal for all to benefit - (add: which is too huge to implement: and would require a complete new board)
Plus I would understand if rebuilding our reputations ourselves was the main reason: just to motivate us or something. I don't need to know: it is what it is.
I lost a dot, could be because of my remark: problem solved (if there was any).

Mark:
Well I am back and lots to catch up on; but I see we are still looking for someone to blame. I don’t care, I view Scott’s changes as fair and equitable so I will carry the burden. Those that feel some kind of loss over their green dots need to look deep inside themselves and not at the rest of us. Most of us live in a democracy and there is no reason the forum shouldn’t be one too. Now that we have that cleared up as to who’s fault it is can we get working to a solution to Bessler’s wheel?See, Jim? It's Daxwc's fault. – LOL

re: Policy Change -- Sockpuppets & Reputation System
Whether you like the system or not forum members need to give out green dots more generously. “A rising tide lifts all boats; meaning the more dots you all have the more power you will have as a collective body. That is why people like Clyde was hard to get rid of, even though it seems like he was somebody’s test and statement. We have all had fights or disagreements with each other at one point or another. We all have had a few petty annoyances, persiflage and sometimes sharp raillery filled with playful repartee but all that needs to be set aside. Vote for honest people. Vote for people trying to contribute whether they irritate you or not. Obviously vote for members you like.
Do not vote for members who’s behavior is unacceptable to you; especially if you have asked for it to change.
Starting today red dot the people who are toxic. Red dot those members who are asked to change their behaviour by more than one person but refuse to. In the future, red dot dishonest people. There is no need to red dot people for every rule violation; that is up to Scott to enforce if he wishes.

@daxwc Good Idea
I have been checking who has not got green dots. Then looking at their Albums and posts. The giving them a dot for good contributions
Then red dot only the worst offenders [in the PUB etiquette 'Give them a good kicking'] :-) virtually
PUB etiquette requires a good understanding of 'Banter'.
So the kicking is with large fluffy shoes. The result is to kick the undesirable out.

@daanopperman Green Dot for your contributions
I supplied sayings one a week for over 2 years.
[PUB:a pint of real ale]
Of cause Banter evolved from 'battle banter'.
Two warring factions would insult and jibe before a battle.
After the foe were killed off the winning side would say.
You know some of those jibe were not bad.
We should use them next time.
And are still living on, in the misty islands of Britain.

This is almost funny. There is also "mob rules". Kind of why I don't think a rating system is needed. It has been abused in the past and probably will be abused in the future.daxwc wrote:Whether you like the system or not forum members need to give out green dots more generously. “A rising tide lifts all boats; meaning the more dots you all have the more power you will have as a collective body. After all, if you consider that everyone knows what John Collins and Scott Ellis has done, then if people deserve respect, they do receive it.
re: Policy Change -- Sockpuppets & Reputation System
lindgard, Jim and anybody else that is complaining you are always free to start your own website and forum. You can even give yourself so many dots green there till you are declared Princess of Drama in the process

I recommend a member can give positive contributions and get Green Dots.
We should not knock members down for passed events; only for present ones.
Walk away from the passed and look forwards

I don't know the source of such Buddha-quote but I'm rather sure that giving red dots to all who we think are 'toxic' will cause all the candles to melt which actually does reduce the life-time of all candles to one thousandth.james.lindgard wrote:This is almost funny.daxwc wrote:...Starting today red dot the people who are toxic. Anyway it first needs a single lit candle shining bright just right.
The rest will light-up automatically by the glow alone.
In the meantime we could just red-dot a person as a behavior-signal, I think that's what you actually meant to say.

I didn’t mean to red dot anybody right away although I guess it sort of reads like that. What I was trying to express is to use the red dot as last measure. Use it what it was intended for a tool of last after a behavior will not change and the person is poisoning the forum. Don’t over use it on rule violations. The more green dots members all have the better the stronger community is at getting some who is needed banned. This is due to the more green dots a member has the more power of his red dot due to the way the system is set up. Maybe my thinking is wrong; enlighten me.

I'm so confused, but hey, I'm a few quarks short of a full neutron, but how does one resolve this:
Which is it?
with this:Most of us live in a democracy and there is no reason the forum shouldn’t be one too.
I mean is this a call for democracy of a call for some to just shut their mouths and go away?lindgard, Jim and anybody else that is complaining you are always free to start your own website and forum.
