A good friend of mine had a bad day, recently. His momma passed. What do you say to someone who just lost a very special soul?

I said, "sorry for your loss"., yet that seems so shallow. I remember my mom. Flowing red hair and hazel eyes. What a girl. She taught me how to count and my abc's. We used to sit at the kitchen table and draw. She was very good. She'd make hillsides with sun rises and pine trees with birds flying in the background.
