world population

I remember when I was a child, learning in school, that I knew that just China had a population amounting to over 6 billion people. I've looked on google to see what the population of the entire world is now, and it says 7.4 billion people in the entire world. Did I miss something big? Why do I remember the world population being well over 10 billion people when I was a little boy and now the world population is less than what China should be right now? Is the world population being lied about on google?

If so, you were lied to in school, or have a false memory of what you were taught..

I was taught that the world had 4+ billion people back then, and that china had 1 bill.
