Gill,
If you like Einstein, he believed that God created the laws of physics to allow for our existence. Still, I wonder if a movie like the adjustment bureau or Star Trek might in some way be close to our reality.
If we are a young civilization and there are more advanced one's, would that be proof there is no God or would that be proof that God is in many places?

@John Doe

Laws are a red flag

In others words

If an Idea is marked by being a Law then it is beyond review.

Laws are treated as absolute in a reality that is subjective and relative.

If you find Truth in your reality after reading my posts then my memes are content.

  • Walter, please for the love of your holy Client remove that x-rayted picture.
and to all a good night. :)

Being so close to the celebration of the birth of my client's boy, I'll relent. However this is the evolution of a meme that should go viral.

I agree. I don't think scientific laws should be written in stone. Although they are a good guide for our current level of technology and understanding they should not be beyond reproach. There iare too many questions left in the board to write very many if anybthings in stone. I see that science will do back flips or jump through hoops rather than challenge a law.

They are not, and should not.
  • The scientific method is a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge.
To be termed scientific, a method of inquiry is commonly based on empirical or measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning.
    [...]
Experiments need to be designed to test hypotheses. The most important part of the scientific method is the experiment.

The scientific method is a continuous process, which usually begins with observations about the natural world.
    [...]
The best hypotheses lead to predictions that can be tested in various ways, including making further observations about nature. In general, the strongest tests of hypotheses come from carefully controlled and replicated experiments that gather empirical data. Depending on how well the tests match the predictions, the original hypothesis may require refinement, alteration, expansion or even rejection. If a particular hypothesis becomes very well supported a general theory may be developed.

I don't see why this is such an issue.
And could anyone point out the exact "hoops", questions and challenges?

The most probable reason why some (perpetual motion) designs fails is usually not because of some "scientific law", but because it's not understood.
What I find deeply disturbing is that any slight hope for "perpetual motion" should also include Aliens, Flying saucers, Oppressing organizations and more of this "Them, Those, There's and They's".

The Big Bang,string theory.
Why quantum mechanics and standard physics don't operate on the same principles.
Dark matter.
Just off the top of my head.

ME what is your prediction of how science will deal with the fact of perpetual motion if or when it becomes a reality ?

Walt,
I think it should go viral as well. You know, what some people will do to brown nose or kiss someone's butt. :-D

p. s., my parents started their family in Texas. :-)

edited to add:Walt, I don't think you appreciate the irony of what you were doing. I have some toilet paper if you want to wipe the brown stuff off of your nose. :-D
