I posted on Jim_Mich facebook. James Randall died. Michigan -1. I will have to make some babies to make Michigan +1. I have never met Jim_Mich in person but there is always time travel.

Universal translator must be broken.

LOL. It's amusing to see the recognisable Bessler pseudonym in the Rot 13 code.

Neither. You're attempting to translate an unconventional delimiter. When one rolls/rotates the entire expression through the typical transformation it is found to be not invariant. That's why I color coded it.

Speaking of codes et al.

Recently whilst away for a few months I read a book by novelist Eric Van Lustbader called 'The Testament' (not to be confused with John Grishams' book of the same name which I've also read and was excellent as well).

In it it covers a relic treasure hunt (for the gospel of Jesus) which includes deciphering many different ciphers and codes which those of you inclined would find fascinating I should think.

Also he gives mileage to the alchemists and the 4 pillars of air, earth, fire, and 'quintessence' (the life force).

I was constantly reminded of the Bessler story as I read through as there were so many parallels. Especially the codes and alchemy because Bessler saw his wheels as self animated with something akin to the breath of life (quintessence ?).

If you read it something else just might fall into place historically for Besslers' background and his story !

Thanks Fletch, I'll read it - I am an inveterate reader anyway. I read a lot and Eric Van Lustbader is a good read.

Sad to see Jim has departed, he definitely left his mark at this forum.

And while we're on the subject of codes...

and a Happy New Year. The Klingon had me going. 2017's going to be a very interesting year. I'm looking forward to it. I've never been so sure of something ever. Well, except for the last time. But this time's different. :)

It certainly is.

And whilst we are on the subject of Jim, he was on his way to moving up to F4 with his horizontal device as was Bessler with his horizontal windmill.

Unfortunately it proved a bridge too far for both of them.

Interestingly enough I now realise that Al Setalokin has succeeded in this quest with his WhipMag device though he won't admit it.

I love Desertphile's comment on the WhipMag. Its a real classic. :-)
