I am starting this string for the strange findings we find from time to time.
For instance I have found a disk shape magnet that I picked up from an estate sale that only attaches to metal on one side only. It is 1/8 of an inch thick and an inch an a quarter wide. No cover but a small indention on the no attractable side. When I put another magnet to the face of it I find N S N S N in strips across the face. I then looked up on the internet to find what kind of magnet it is and found polymagnet but for only one problem. To get the effect of this magnet the polymagnet needed a backing. So I am still now sure what kind of magnet this is due to the backing issue.
Has anybody else seen such a magnet?

re: Strange finding
Could be part of a stepper-motor. Perhaps one side is layered with (mu) metal for shielding.
I once demolished a floppy disc drive containing a ring magnet with a dozen (probably 16) alternating N/S fields, I don't recall any shielding though.Has anybody else seen such a magnet?

I am very surprised you are getting no attraction on the other side. And yes, stepper motors or other brushless motors can use a magnet similar to this.
re: Strange finding
thanks for the possibility Tarsier79
Here is what the magnet looks like on the non magnetic side. Ferrite polymagnet is the closest. If a motor stepper or brushless flat motor seems to be possible but I could not find an exact one that it would fit.

Assembled near a coil, this mag will compose a speaker and/or a vibrator...
Stuffs for a cell phone, I guess.
One side block will be very useful to avoid interferences.
