The center of mass, being below center is wrong! The combined center of mass, cannot be below center.

Thank you both Silvertiger and Fcdriver.

The centre of mass of a balanced wheel is its axle.
The centre of mass of combined weights in my drawings can be below centre of mass of balanced wheel's axle, anywhere on the left or right of axle.

The centre of mass of combined weights that provides the required torque for turning the wheel.

Anybody that follow my posts here, must have realized that my physics is elementary.

I wish I could argue my torque calculations by physics formulae.
I can only calculate torque and centre of mass of two identical weights by finding the mid-point between them and the horizontal distance from the axle (centre of mass of balanced wheel), as I have shown in the drawings below:

Wheel and centre of mass of balanced wheel, axle is black.
Weights in blue.
lines joining opposite weights in black.
COM of combined weights in GREEN.

I would humbly request both of you gentlemen, to kindly explain, what have I done wrong?

And kindly do it the right way for me. THANK YOU.

Raj

My current wheel concept on this forum reminds me of ' The Tremeloes " singing " Silence is Golden ".

Silence is golden but my eyes can see!

Raj, post a drawing that is labeled. Label your masses with values in weight. Dimension your drawing - you know, write down your measurements like radii, lengths, heights, angles, etc. That way things can be calculated by others. :)

All measurements and angles can be found on my drawings on graph papers.

Measurements:

1. (Drum) wheel(1): diameter= 18 unit length, mass = lightest as possible.

2. Axle(2) = center of wheel.

3. Crossbar(3)= 4 units below center of wheel axle(2).

4. Weights(4): Qty = 8, Mass=maximum possible for wheel, cylindrical with holes in the middle, to accommodate movable elbowed joint of levers(5) and (6).

5. Levers(5): Qty = 8, 9 units length, same as radius of wheel(1), in separate vertical plane inside wheel(1), pivoting on rim at 45 degrees intervals, starting from the 12 0'clock position.

6. Levers(6): Qty = 8, 4 units length, in separate vertical plane, in paired, movable, elbowed, joint connection with levers(5).

Angles:

Angles change continuously as wheel(1) rotates, and can be easily calculated on static drawings and pictures of rotating wheel, at an instant of time.

This is the best explanation I can give.

I believe that a self-rotating wheel will work WHEN torque producing weights will fall from and rise back to the center of a BALANCED wheel, alternately.

That is what my current Gravity swinging weight concept is about.

Hopefully, this would be my last wheel concept ever.

Today is a great day for me.

I just carried out my first preliminary concept testing prototype with only two weights, and the result is positive.

All indications show this gravity swinging weights powered wheel is going to be a runner.

I guess that savvy members on this forum have already found something in this concept.

Hi Raj ,

I am glad for you , does the wheel start to rotate if you remove the pillar .
