I know of two examples of horizontal inertial drive mechanisms.

Now I can get full wave rectification by allowing the carriage to run up hill,
switch to a parallel track going uphill in the reverse direction and so on.
This is where putting it on rails rather that tyres, say, has been so useful.
switching lines is second nature to railway technology whereas with road
technology I wouldn't have thought of this.
I don't propose to prove this experimentally though. I have satisfied myself
that the carriage will go uphill and that is sufficient. If anyone doubts this I
will happily video a demonstration.
So I have managed to get the PKE converted to Newtonian potential
energy which is half way to feeding in back into the wheel and so smoothing
out the wheel's rotation. In reality I only need to feed enough in to get it
over the top and with a wheel where wind and bearing resistance is a
minimum this is very little. One doesn't want to feed it all back or one
destroys the source of the PKE, which is of course the variation in the rpm
of the 360° pendulum.

The generation of the higher derivative energy can best be illustrated with
a coin rolling demonstration.
If you roll a seven sided 50p coin (the large pre-1997 are best) along a
smooth horizontal plane the coin will initially jump up and down with a
rattling noise. This is because though the diameter of the coin is constant
its centre of mass is not generally at the half diameter point. When the
coin is rolling fast enough the vertical oscillation of the mass centre is
sufficient to lift the coil free of the horizontal surface. The impact
when if falls back causes the rattling.
As the speed decreases there come a point where the rattling suddenly
ceases and the coin rolls smoothly.
This is the point where the vertical oscillation of the mass centre is
insufficient to lift the coin. It only varies the force applied by the
coin to the horizontal plane.

Notice that I have only relaxed the horizontal energy, the PKE energy, the inertia energy. I have relaxed the horizontal strain energy and allowed it to
be born as motion energy. I have made the horizontal strain energy manifest.
I have NOT relaxed the vertical strain energy. I have not made the Newtonian strain energy manifest.
A good example of the reverse procedure, turning vertical Newtonian motion
energy into vertical strain energy is given by the rolling action of a 50 pence coin.

is the result of EG. There is no horizontal component of NG.
