They'd buy futures in its principle ingredients & stocks in it after it was commercialized, then dance in the streets right after filling up the car with petrol.

Then questions would be asked :(

I think that the public/media would demand an explanation as to why the secret was withheld. It that explanation made sense and seemed the "logical" thing to do, then the government officials would be praised. If, however, the explanation did not make sense or was done for some shallow reason like the profit of some special interest group, then the government officials would probably be tried for treason and incarcerated.

In any event, the public would eventually get the new technology and we'd all live happily ever after...

I agree the "blame game" would be played just as in Katrina today.
It doesn't do much good. We just need to get solutions on the market.

The government would drag out the 'plausible deniability' argument to protect govt officials from rebuke. Some lesser mortals would have to be sacrificed to divert attention & have somewhere for the publics anger to be vented. After a cooling down period the spun down explanations would surface. You know, the usual.

We didn't want to be irresponsible & had to thoroughly road test the technology so that we didn't falsely raise expectations that could crash world markets etc. Or, we had to fully explore its potential to provide alternative power both domestically & commercially so that people didn't disconnect form the grid overnight & then we had to scope the likely transition rate so it would be conducted in an orderly manner without undue uptake panic. There are many more scenario's.

Either way the govt would come up smelling of roses & reason that in light of new information made available it was the only course of action a civilised & prudent nation could have taken. You & I would end up thanking them & lining up with the rest.

Now what do I believe would happen, those of normal and high IQ would vote for a second term for the same people who were blamed for the cover up. Those of lower IQ would vote for Hillary Clinton who they believe would straighten it all out and bring justice to the non-participants.
