The exhilaration is still there with sims John :7) Maybe in spades coz you can move so quickly to your next high.

I think you know my preference for professional sims. You just have to do a bit of study with Mr G before deciding what to do and how to go about it. What will work best for you and your budget.

There are free sims that can be downloaded, such as Phun, and Algodoo, Interactive Physics etc. I found the first two difficult to use after WM and also could be unreliable for what we do where Physics of rotation and movement must marry to reality, sometimes by slim margins.

If you really want to go high end and 3D then there is Solidworks Cosmos (very like a CAD drawing with kinematics). I'd do that if I wanted to have a machine shop build something for me that required very fine accuracy and I'd expect them to have their own version and the ancillary computer machine cutting tools to go with it.

Have a crack at the free ones some of the lads have downloaded on line, like RobinHood46, and take them for a spin. Check'em out. Don't beat yourself up if at first you feel a little awkward and frustrated, and all left thumbs. That's normal, unless you are whatever the generation is that was born after this century, which you and I are not. When you outgrow it move to another better suited for your needs and as your skills improve. In a month you'll wonder what all the fuss was about and be amazed how you did without it lol.

Perhaps other members here could offer their advice and experiences.

ETA : you never lose your hands on skills and enthusiasm to build something John, when the mood takes your fancy. Table top models/mockups are my thing these days, to cross-check my interesting sims. And I get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from both disciplines. More so coz I plan the build in the sim, so not too many unpleasant surprises, usually.

John, convince me that there are clues in the drawings. I currently hold the belief that there aren't and the same goes for the portraits.

In my mind, I would visualize decoding clues as say taking every fifth letter that Bessler wrote and it would spell out exactly how to reconstruct his wheel etc... , not if you draw a line from here to there...

To me it's more of a Rorschach test, but you see whatever you want to see in them. If you see nothing, that's fine. If you see complex angles or masonic references, that's fine too. But if they do exist, they have not yet lead anyone to the solution.

I tried that in parts of AP (up to every 20th letter IIRC), sadly, didn't work...

I tried it once to find the mechanism between the two weights, where the red one should lift by a fall of 90°, the blue one by 30° against the direction of rotation. It works without problems, although I don't know the missing details from John yet. There is also more potential, especially since I'm not sure yet if it's already 30° that the blue weight is moved. The force through the fall is enough in any case. Another mechanism keeps the blue weight in position and releases it in time, although this would not be necessary with the current configuration.

This should be a suggestion how to implement the mechanism. The exact positions of the weights would of course have to be adjusted. For example, according to John's specifications, the red weight would have to be located much further in the center of the wheel axle before its fall.

Anyway, here is a simulation and the file to experiment!

Thanks jonnynet. I’ll put some more drawings up once I’ve adjusted the design.

Hello John,

I am enjoying your thread. Two things that I noticed about your design is they work in pairs,
and you have one mass driving the other. I think a prime mover is critical.

When I think about the people who are the pillars of perpetual motion your name comes to
mind. Of course there is Scott for putting together this site and ovyyus for his contribution
of the MT's. Bessler maybe the father of Perpetual Motion, however you certainly are a
grandchild. :-)

I'd like to thank you for all that you have done. Your contributions are appreciated here.
