Hi thx4,

make the change I have you suggested in the prior post and I am pretty sure it will work.

You have everything in your construction.
Instead of one central mass on your pendulum make 2 on the left and right end of the bar.

The pendulum length of the 2 pendulums you must adapt to reach the natural frequency.
Only a fine tuning.

All in all a very good built model. Congratulation, I see it as a runner.

THX, I love this build.

Georg is wrong in this case: it will not be a runner. Fine tuning the lifter and finding a natural frequency will make it more efficient.

If you want to spend the time, most of these cheap skateboard bearings can be improved by popping off the plastic dust cap, cleaning any grease inside and applying some fine machine oil. The downside is you have to keep reapplying it on occasion and rotating to spread the oil or you get rust, friction etc.

What a (pseudo)name ! Anyway , you made and tested "Roue de Bessler MT 13" , an attractive copy of Bessler's MT-13 , with 12 arms...but not "self" running , as you know...

...it seems not "self" working , also.
Bessler said something about a bad habit :"...greed has an evil root".
This time , have we a concept dilemma ( wheel vs lever ) ?!
Any of your wheel type build ( many spokes/arms ) , can be so easy tested as a lever concept ( two arms , only ) , if you are fixing /"solidify" temporary in some manner all of them , but two opposite.
So , you can test "effortlessly " a wheel with two "active" /variable arms,only.
A minimized MT-13 expression/shape , with a single variable arm , at :

I won't be so categorical about the MT13, I'm only at the beginning of the experimentation, I'm still far from being able to exploit the positive side of the weights that come down from this wheel, the balance(s) distribute the energy like an old clock...And I don't have this working precision. :)

I experimented your concept with a light unbalance with two weights, I'll come back later, indeed the acceleration behaviors are disturbing.

@Georg, I did a small test, but I lack equipment so I will continue, but the little I saw: the oscillation passes from one weight to another but no self-oscillation for now. I still hesitate in the way to operate, either I move the pendulum that I replace by a cam, and I put the pendumum outside to lift the weights on the side of the big nut.

Could you clarify this statement [US: disambiguate].

How was it disturbing? What were you expecting too happen and how was it different from your expectation?

Hi thx4,
you can test the lever arm with the two pendulums separate, without the complete build of the MT13.

The complete pendulum which I had shown to you is an one step oscillator,
it is acting as a normal pendulum.

This oscillator will change the status from an parametric oscillation to a parasitic oscillation when you try to stop the normal movement of the pendulum.

So the force which you transfer to the MT13 is disturbing the normal swinging of the pendulum, now it is a tilt,hit pendulum.
The pendulum will fly higher than before.
In physic the name of this force is the periodic perturbance force

I am pretty sure that you will see now the difference of a normal pendulum and a tilt,hit pendulum.

The MT13 will most likely work when we manage to lift the weight of 11:00 or 10:00 in the simplest and lightest way possible.
Still some work to do.

The red cam weighs a total of 130gr with an unbalance of 90gr
it is necessary that this cam is not of unbalance thus does not weigh anything on the principal axis, once solved we should see something else lol.

I appreciate your builts but,
as more parts you add it will not be selfrunning if you have not the correct configuration how the masses had to move.

There are 3 types of mechanical oscillators

the first type is what everyone does, it is acting as a normal pendulum
this type is your device. Is is an oscillation where the amplitude is decreasing.

the seclond type is an oscillation
when two vibrations in the same direction are superimposed with only slight differences in frequency, the appearance of periodically fluctuating amplitudes, which is noticeable as swelling and swelling of the sound

and the third, that is what Bessler did
an amplitude gain through positive feedback loop.
It is an oscillation where the amplitude is increasing.

Technicians try where they can to avoid the third case, because the model will be self destroyed.
So technicians are aware of this problem.

They use big pendulums as a vibration damper, but we need exactly the opposite.

Resonance. The effect of resonance in a mechanical system is very important to engineers. Nearly every mechanical system will exhibit some resonance (vibration) and can with the application of even a very small external pulsed force, be stimulated to do just that.

If an externally timed and pulsed (or periodic) force is applied in-phase with the naturally occurring resonance of a system, the frequency amplitude is further excited and increases and the system can become very unstable and be threatened by so called resonance-catastrophe (or self-amplifying destruction). Engineers usually work very hard to eliminate resonance from a mechanical system, as they perceive it to be counter-productive.

It is however impossible to prevent all resonance in a system. But we can limit or control its effect, either through the use of timed and pulsed (180 degrees out-of-phase) counter-frequencies, or by building a system in a such a way that it dampens down the self-exciting frequency so that it does not become unstable and self-destructive.

Systems that are able to resonate usually have more than one frequency at which they can resonate or oscillate. This can be called the system harmonics and is a characteristic exploited in the building of musical instruments, for example, to give tonal variations etc.

Forced Oscillation and Differential Equations

The principle of Forced Oscillation, and the equations used to explain it, explores the relationship between the amount of Inertia Force ( IF ), with Friction Force ( FF ) and Conservation Force ( CF ) and simply says the sum of these forces is not equal to zero, and by deduction the resultant force to balance both sides of the equation is Disturbed Force ( DF ). It could also be called a Stimulating Force.

In other words an external Disturbed Force ( DF ), which has a regular Sine shape and is pulsed (dependent on time) acts on the system such that : DF = MF sin wt (where MF is Maximum Force and the Impulse Frequency is w).

Forced Oscillation therefore can be explained by the Differential Equation : DF = IF + FF + CF

Furthermore : s + (b/m)s + (D/m)s = (MF/m)sin wt

The calculation of the Disturbed or Stimulating Force, the system frequencies, the system amplitude and the system null phase angle is shown in the book : Physic for Ingenieure ISBN 3-519-26508-7 on pages 289 / 290.

Why not and nothing could be easier. If I understand correctly with a weight of half and all on strings ? Correct me if I'm wrong...

All weights rest on the central axis nothing new... We have to rely only on the lifting at 12 o'clock of the weight in a fast way...

The lifted weight causes a strong imbalance, and in fact drives the wheel continuously if we lift this weight between 11 and 10.
To my knowledge I have not seen this detail elsewhere ... lol, but oh so disturbing no?

@Georg is right the more I will add moving parts the more difficult it will be, I see on site the remaining couple and I remain optimistic.
