Tips for using the new forum

re: Tips for using the new forum
If you use the "Quote" button then the computer simply places all of the post into quote syntax.
If you use the "quick reply" feature then you need to do it manually.
If you use the "post reply" feature then you can let the computer help you or you can do it manually.
To let the computer help simply click the "Quote" button and the computer will start the quote syntax. Then past the quote. Then click the "Quote*" button to close the quote syntax. Note that the quote button changes slightly each time it is clicked.
To manually quote simply type...
then past the quote then type
to end the quote.
If you want to add the persons name then begin the quote with
.
It is really very simple once you get the hang of it.

Or you can highlight the quote and press the quote button after the paste. It needs to be highlighted though as though you were going to copy it again.
What goes around, comes around.

Hi Scott, How do I qualify to insert my avatar picture?
I have tried but it just keeps giving me a new code to fill in.

Stewart has opened his forum for public viewing!
Two members has asked him if they could join, instead of asking him (taking up his time) to put you on his list, do the following:
Click on "Groups" located top right of this page. click on "bloggers" and hit the down arrow, you will find Stewart's forum members at the bottom of the list.
Next click on "view information" (far right), click on "subscribe"... You will then be notified by return mail regarding your request.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. (Statisitics are only available to members for now...)
I just added even more statistics you might find interesting. Scroll to the bottom of the Statistics page and click the "Site History" link...
Good stuff! (but needs more time to accumulate data...)

I remember the word count statistics had top ranking words like 'a', 'I' & 'not' etc.
If you are bringing this back then can you use some form of filtering?
Thanks

Re: Tips for using the new forum
When I setup 'Starship Bessler' PHPBB3 at the start of the year. I restricted posts initial forum for new members.
So guest could view open forums and active member were put into groups to post in members only forums.
Newly registered members were in this restricted area and had a chance to introduce themselves
before accessing any of the members only areas.
This means non-focused adverts, looking around without contributions etc are limited to this initial area.
Your call Boss.

Re: Tips for using the new forum
I was thinking the rating could be contrived using the friend or foe setting.
if the a count was done of + friend - foe counts then members could be put into a user_group assigned a colour.
Let say blue (Well Respected) to the other Red (Should be banned).
A simple table of members by posts, Friend and Foe counts would be a start.
I wonder if there is an API to assist automating the user_group assignment process?

Re: Tips for using the new forum
Is this your way of asking to be an admin? It's not a bad idea actually. I will die and the site should not die with me.
Thanks for visiting BesslerWheel.com

Hello scott
Could the site be put into escrow of some form?
That also goes for other main contributers of cause. Well J.C. have you considered your legacy planning?
How many admin have you got at this time?
Regards to all.
You have a good point. What is the plan to prevent you or the site passing away.

Re: Tips for using the new forum
As long as the forum is safe it provides a store house of information. As for myself I have ideas about leaving my own work available for public consumption, but I’m unsure quite how to arrange it. I’m kind of working half-heartedly on writing a book with everything I know in it, but it’s been difficult while my wife and I continue to live with my daughter, granddaughter and son in law. Space is very limited and our next house won’t be available until some time in November. But I’m open to ideas.
My blog is free so even after I’m gone, I’m not sure what would happen to it, as my web sites they will go once the host stops getting paid.
