I dabble, but don't have the willpower to keep a close eye on it. The recent Doge spike turned $250 into $7500, which I quickly withdrew because of The volatility. Had I the stones to hold on for another week it would have been more than double. Even though I was a little disappointed, the 7K was better than nothing, and came just in time to contribute to the private hospital for the birth of my son. What bothers me about halving, 97% have been mined. When will it become not profitable to mine bitcoin for anyone? Your miner mines Soley for a year and gets nothing? Will bitcoin be worth anything if miners all get switched off. Don't the miners confirm the tranSactions? Will all the alts be instantly worth nothing if BTC=$0?

It is easy for back set investors to give advice.

However here is mine for what it's worth.

Invest what you can afford to loose.
Invest after doing some trend analysis and the sentiment is stable going to an upward trend.

When you see the investment doing up and you think this can not continue.
Take out double the amount you invested. That is a good profit at the best of times.

Follow the investment watching for 10, 15 & 20% stop loss.
If the story why you think it is going up is still good then stay at 10% stop loss.
If it drops by 15% then ask what is your reason for staying with the investment.
If it drops by 20% then get out and take a break. You deserve it.

Stock following has less risk. So you could adjust the stop loss levels to address the larger volatility.

Post Script: What Stop Loss levels would have given the optimum return for your investment?
Would the 15% and 20% drop have kicked you out before you actually did?

All the Best

All sound advice Agor ..

When I was just turned a teenager I remember discussing gambling with my father. His attitude, which stuck with me, was only gamble what you can afford, and when your original investment had grown by 50% take out the original capital amount you invested and put it back under the mattress lol. And then ride the reinvested profit for all its worth, and enjoy every moment. And when it's no longer enjoyable cash it out. His caveat was that if that reinvested profit dips hold on tight but don't care too much about it coz it is paper profit and loss at that stage. But at some time you have to have big kahunas, not to keep on riding the tiger, but to know when to take profit (or loss) and get off the tiger.

I then bet him my allowance that my fly would crawl up the wall higher than his. He took the bet and I smashed his fly ;7)

Seriously tho .. following on with Oystein's theme of crypto's investment etc, and Tarsier's experiences (thanks), this morning I looked into a group called Cross Gate Capital https://www.crossgatecapital.co.nz/ They act like a managed share fund selling and managing shares in only the crypto world of investment. This might be more suitable for me (i.e. largely hands-off and takes little effort or expertise from me). A half way house of tradable shares in the crypto and alt coin scene. Their reputation and success as a company is tied directly to performance and analysis skills of the market and trends (they would sweat it and not me so much). They have to be onto it to stay in business and grow. That's a big bad domestic cat (slightly conservative) I might like to ride. Whatdoyah think ?

It always a difficult call but crypto reminds me of the early days of Las Vegas or XXX films of Hollywood.

Things become less out there and more main stream over time.

P.S. There was a chain of night clubs pole dancing etc. However they went bust as they could not value their assets.

Advice Follow the greed but don't get greedy.

Yes, such a managed fund/holding company is a possible route.
From the historical data, just HODL Bitcoin would make the double retuns..

Positive side:
Simple, login, payment and order. (I guess), a support team, and a feeling of "someone else takes care of things".

Negative:
Company could be hacked, go corrupt or flee with the money etc. Your account could be hacked etc. (The same security issue is also present if you should keep your coins on an exchange..) The return also seems lower than just HODLing Bitcoin.

So based on the relative fresh history of Bitcoin, HODL Bitcoin to the end of a current 4y cycle, then sell, and/or HODL for another 4 years, seems to be safest and most profitable.

Trading/day-trading that's a whole other game.. I have tried some trading too.

Isn't the strategy of halving every four years to build in scarcity value and artificially inflate the perceived value because of lack of future supply ?

If we know this doesn't it remove the mystique and make the manipulation and psychology more transparent ?

Yet even suspecting that, it would encourage BTC investors to HODL as long as possible I should think.

Thus keeping the wind in the sails until the penny drops to mix my metaphors.

I guess the question is still do you go along for the ride and hope its not becalmed anytime soon !

This thread reminded me that I then reinvested $1500 back into Altcoins. As a long shot I bought 20,000,000 Shiba for $250. It is now worth about $300. (I am hoping it goes somewhere near $1 in 15/20 yrs) In the same time,(around 5 months) my Ethereum has now doubled. My total value is still Sweet F All though... again the stones thing.

I guess, if everybody believe the same thing, it will happen.. if everybody think the price will increase, everybody wants to buy in and the price does increase.. So the stock to flow could very well be just a self fulfilling prophecy thing more than a actual demand/stock "problem..So I guess removing the mystique is a key, not a problem. Anyway, consensus sells even if it is wrong..

I am handing you the book on a plate. I would throw the book at you put my hand has fallen off.

Remember not too bite the hand that feeds you; it has maggots.

And try studying the reference literature. For if you have not got the time too read up on the background material. Then you really have not got the time too write.

P.S. Try writing a short abridged version first.

Freakin' trolls are thicker than DNA in Georg's barn on this board.

Let me quote myself so perhaps you might get the point the second time.

Second day without employement, nor running any business.
Writing a list of small things to do at home, and will use a couple of days to "acclimatize".

As soon as I am well rested, I will start to make some exciting revelations regarding the general and apparent use of the Rosicrucian code by Bessler and other artists.

I will show how I believe they applied the Pythagorean formula as a hidden sign or formula. Then I will show that the formula was applied to leads towards a special figure and a well kept secret method of squaring the circle! This formula had a secret logo resembling a Pyramid and/or a Square and compass. This squaring was originally the quest of the Philosopher Plato.

I concluded this was why the great Freemason Albert Pike wrote that ALL Masonry is based upon The Pythagorean formula as it was originally written in Euclid's Elements over 2000 years ago.

This is the methods I claim I found applied in Bessler's work and I cliam this is among methods needed to fill in the gaps in MT.

The last pages of MT becomes much clearer when knowing this. For example, the Toypage becomes less disturbing by applying "Another Game", namely that of of Masonry. The "Spinning Top" has an eye at its center. "The eye" in Masonry is the eye of "God". And then again (In Masonry), God is the sun! Then when viewing the related MT - the Zodiac or the circle of 5ths (of Plato and Pythagoras) we can easily find that when viewed as a Zodiac, the big black center is in fact the SUN! I believe This MT has nothing to do with any wheel's mechanism, but simply states that we should apply the Masonic/Rosicrucian symbolism, and that we should see that axle as the sun.

So when knowing that the center/axle is the sun, and the Spinning top's eye also represents the God/Sun, we can investigate the idea that the Spinning top in the Toy Page, represents the Axle of the wheel! The Spinning top is also the only rotating Toy with an axle, so the idea shouldn't be far fetched.

Have a nice day

Best
