Ok the edit history seems to be working now after some php hacking. What a cluster php is.

Well there is the site parameter that can be set to require X number of posts in a restricted newbie forum before being entered into the 'Registered users' group.
The 'Registered users' group can allow posts in the newbie forum and the normal forums. I use normal loosely.
There is value in having a limited versioning system.
That way we can see when a member changes a post for good or bad.
Sometimes I come back and correct text 2 or 3 days after posting.
If I go word blind or have a migraine [Over thinking again].
You really need 2 to 3 days. It would be great too get back to 'normal' in 3 hours.
Put that has never happened so far.
