3 simple physical experiments

Post by jonnynet »

Found this recently. Focus is on the third experiment. Did you expect the result?

Yes, I expected that.

The function itself can only happen if you have a vertical movement of the small weight.

A bigger mass represented with the cup accelerates a smaller weight sidewards,

The force on the rope an on the suspension point is being variegated.
We have an automatic catch the fall function.

Of course you can try this experiment at home, but if you don't have the correct length of the rope your cup will fall on the ground.
So the vertical rope length is the key factor for this catch the fall action.
It allows gravity to take action on the small weight. Give gravity the time to act.
The small weight experiences an x,y acceleration.

The interesting point is the force on the suspension point, the sudden stop of the falling of the cup.
Best regards

Georg

I have to admit I was a bit surprised first but then, after thinking about for a minute, I felt I got it. I ask myself if Bessler's principle might somehow have something to do with it. However, find such experiments quite entertaining and it might be helpful to think of physics in this way every now and then. Possibly it can lead to new ideas, an inspiration. But actually this is off-topic, I apologize.

identical forces but different masses it is what made bessler
or maybe equivalent masses yet different forces.
either way the math gets thrown out the window.

best of luck guessing what made Bessler.

yes, I'm sorry, that's right. I got confused with the terms.
