Tips for using the new forum

Re: Tips for using the new forum
Pretty cool way to go about solving this issue Scott. I really like the old forum better, but I'm warming up to this one. I kind of miss Bessler staring at me and sticking his tongue out, but all that aside - it's got me wondering what it would take to set up my own private forum. Guess I'll go do some research on this. Thanks for all your hard work here.

Hello Scott
Joking aside I appreciate the efforts needed to combat misuse.
I was using nginx & fail2ban front end. With that reception area in the PHPBB3.
Well that was on an old respberry pi. Really low/cost spec.
The thought can to me that 'pill pusher' must use consistently
is the product or company name.
Shame there is not a fail too post content based on a key word search of the topic/post title and body content.
Hopefully nobody will come up with 'Bessler uppers' pills.
All the best

You could have a private forum here. Nobody can get into it without your permission.silent wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 12:40 am Pretty cool way to go about solving this issue Scott. Those login/register and noisy around without posting people we not see it.
P.S. Save alot of effort for the 15 members forums that exist.

Re: Tips for using the new forum
Thanks for your comments agor.
I was a Sysop years ago and I ran my BBS on a Commodore Amiga in my little town for 4 years. I think it would be cool to run my own forum akin to those BBS days and instead of monkeying around with social media, just have my own custom board for whatever topic suits me. I could invite people to my own URL and I'd only have to accept people into it that I allowed. It seems the software is opensource and you can download certain plug-ins for it. The format is very recognizable and it's used all over internet these days. I suppose I could spend most of my days deleting spam posts. LOL!

It's an itch that needs scratching. That is why I am looking into Plone 5.2. with a nginx front-end.
I used to access a BBs on my Amiga during the modem days.
Simple and cheap.
I could not imaging implementing what I do day using that tech.

Re: Tips for using the new forum
One minor problem, not sure if others are affected by it: The "Remember Me/Keep Me Signed In" function for 'Sign In' isn't currently working (it was a few days ago.) Might be my crappy AOL to blame, too... ;-)

Don't want to complain lol. >Advanced Search > sort ascending and descending is not working both ways.
Re: Tips for using the new forum
Hi Mr Tim
I had this problem initially.
I found my "Forum" bookmark was still on http.
Changing to https (re-bookmarked when logged in) solved it for me.
Using Firefox browser.

Mick

Re: Tips for using the new forum
Scott, Can you fix up a link to view members images, like "Albums" on the old forum?
Cheers
Kaine.

Re: Tips for using the new forum
No problems Scott. It was a great resource. It is a pity it is not available.

Re: Tips for using the new forum
Scott, can you put the Bessler Wiki link into the 'Quick Links' above? Thanks! You may also want to create a link to the original BW home page (unless that's gone) from the forum, too... ;-)
