Want a simple working WM sim? Try this...
Any size wheel but for now,....
pin a six ft. dia. circle so it can rotate
make a six ft long by one inch wide rectangle and pivot join it to six o'clock at the circle's perimeter, the other end is straight up to twelve o'clock
pin a five lb weight to this rectangle at the twelve o'clock end, cock this weighted arm to one side so it will fall over
pin a five pound weight to the circle's perimeter at three and nine o'clock
set everything to not collide
set friction to zero, and animation step to auto at first, then turn these up gradually......
The "pendulum" will swing continuously, sometimes one way, then it will sometimes go over the top the other way...

I gave it a try, but with the air resistance set to "low" it just slowly dampened its motion. This does not look like it's OU/PM...

On 7/6/06, I found, in any overbalanced gravity wheel with rotation rate, ω, axle to CG distance d, and CG dip angle φ, the average vertical velocity of its drive weights is downward and given by:
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ

Hmmmm. Very interesting simulation rks1878! My version won't always spin right around. It depends on where the weight is on the lever arm as it approaches the top. But it does display an interesting concept regarding how a weight...might? Move around within a wheel? I think this deserves further thought! I think this movement would be a perfect one to utilise springs into a wheel. The weights have a natural tendency to be pulled back in on the ascending side.

I posted it because most have never seen a working WM sim. If animation is set higher than 40 it won't work however. I have friction set to real life, with the animation set to auto and it still works though.
But it is interesting to watch.
Perhaps someone could make something of it, I don't know...

yeah, I don't place a lot of trust in wm2d. Real life motion is far more complex than wm2d can even hope to comprehend. It is a useful tool however and should only be used to get a better understanding of how a concept would behave. We all run into the danger of neglecting a promising design because wm2d say's it won't work! When, by some quirk of nature it just might!

Am still fooling around trying to get my 6 June idea going.
I think JEEB's wheel had two systems operating together....a little more complex than I thought, one driving the other to the imbalance.
I've chosen one to add underneath my idea.............
It will look "simple", but of the millions of ways to configure things, where'd it come from?

That is exactly the conclusion that I have recently come to. I am thinking that his one directional wheels actually had two arrays of moving weights, each shifting the other so that both of their CG's were one the same side of the axle. The Koen machine appears to require an input of wishful thinking.

I'm believing now, that what observers of JEEB's wheel thought were poles, sliding or rubbing against each other, was actually small link chain going around pulleys!
