I should have said 16 inches not 18. I was forgetting that the rollers are 2 inches smaller than the drums. Normally, the weights would have to be lifted, say 17 inches, to get them all the way back up to the top. But, with the drums they only have to be lifted about one inch, which is a lot easier. Right, the clues are very suggestive, except the mechanism has only one moving part. How could you get any thing simpler than that? That's what he said right? "--it was so very simple"--. What else? Some thing about, "--how could a heavy body be induced to rise once more--" That's what the casings do, at least most of it----------------------Sam

PS I'm off on my numbers, it's more like 12 inches. I.E., the drums lift the rollers @ 12" and the flat part an additional one inch.

What I found by simulating is the more mechanisms I add, the worse it gets. A real build could be different.

No body gives a dam but, I refuse to give it up, maybe eventually the lights will come on. I think now that Zugg or Zugge refers to the casings. I.E., if he added more Zugge(s), (casings) / weights, (rollers), the wheel would rotate much faster----------------------Sam

I just realized, some thing you talked about Fletcher; fits my bull sh*t theory. When these rollers roll out and down the flat place, they strike the rim of the casings with a great force, it's like a hammer hitting an anvil. Anyway, maybe the rollers are the heavy clubs that were hitting the rim of the hoop and stick toy, that the kids were plying with.

How's that for twisting things around? I'm just trying to make a case for the casings----------------------------Sam
