Bonjour Sam,
J'ai essayer cette configuration mais cela ne vas pas plus loin en rotation.

Hello Sam,
I tried this configuration but it does not go further in rotation.

SHADOW,
That's a good idea and exactly what it needs. A simple way to shift the green bar to the right; probably not another cross-bar. Something else, something else in the center, not sure what to pry it over-------------------Sam

If you want to just "pry it over" you could try having the other crossbar's centre in a slot on the long bar, which you adjust the angle to play around with force neded to pry over, and the moment the weights shift.

Thanks Robinhood, thanks for your help; your idea might work. That's all that remains to produce a runner, some easy way to shift the rollers to one side or the other---------------Sam

My concern is that you are trying to do the same as Georg, with his octagon, window frame and other shapes, but on a different scale. I do think the different scale is better, but to me, the principal is exactly the same, and I'm afraid it will fail.
I am more than happy to help you achieve what you hope to achieve, even if i do think it will not work. As always, i hope i am wrong and you succeed.
I think you are going to see that the wheel is always shifting them too late.
Good luck all the same.

Sam

What difference do you see between having a single ring & roller vs 4, or 8 ring & rollers interconnected...and what difference do you see between a ring and roller, and a heavy weight on a pendulum arm?.....The answer is: principally none.

I remember, I liked a drum filled with water that compressed pistons located all around the rim once the pressure was enough, which in turn operated OB weights. Guess what? ultimately similar principle, similar/same problems.

Bonjour Sam,

Hello Sam,
Be optimistic, I have a simulation that works with your principle, I must redo it to know this is not a Bug Algodoo!
The long arm version has a contradictory behavior, the short arm 1 version turns, it’s a crazy story!
A physical version should decide.

rollers.png
This uses rollers, or the weight isn't rolling inside of the circle- the circle is rolling with the weight attached. Gear teeth are colored. More weights improve this design because there is less change on the row of weights goin to the top left. Maybe more than 4 lifting 1 is necessary. I have drawn four lifting one. I think my rollers drawing looks workable. Click in the weight after its lifted and unclick it from its position on the bottom and the gears will roll into place and connect on the colored gear teeth.

This is a link to my other picture that I think is good too.

Preoccupied,
I'm not sure what it would do with the outer rings and rollers turning with gears.

SHADOW,
I'm not sure of the pendulum either. I think I tried this and it balanced out but, it's the right idea.

Robinhood / Tarsier,
I stand by my work, as far as I know the discoveries I've made and posted are valid---------------------Sam

SHADOW,
Your last drawings may be very close to working. The center of both cross-bars on the same pin, with the pendulum to hold them over. All four rollers would help to turn the wheel continuously. Again, it's very close to being a runner.

Anyway, I'm going to try a variation of it---------
