Well, you didn't say otherwise Jim, so it would seem that your trouble actually is with the exact shape of the 'forgotten cam ramp'.
How can a specific ramp slope have such a narrow margin for error? What makes your ramp so different compared to the thousands of previous similar attempts that resulted in failure?

Ovyyus,
Your statement:
So why was I attracted to James Kelly's version to start with, and why can I not let it rest. It's because of your statement above, "unusual shape"
I have never came across another like it. And it keeps telling me it will work. I play with it and then walk away in a day or two I am back at it.
And that is all can say.
Ralph
Your statement:
Having been around Bessler's history and gravity wheels for a number of years I have well learned the statement of "You can not exchange hight for length. I did not agree to build Kelly's machine with my eyes closed and no forethought.I fail to see how any 'normal' ramp curvature shape could solve the problem. Perhaps it's a more unusual shape, like sawtooth shaped, where the weight is made to experience free-fall periodically during it's ramp transition? ... or whatever?

I have had many designs that kept "telling" me they would work too. I do hope that the one you are working on is not like the ones I tried!

On 7/6/06, I found, in any overbalanced gravity wheel with rotation rate, ω, axle to CG distance d, and CG dip angle φ, the average vertical velocity of its drive weights is downward and given by:
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ

Have moved everything back to square one on the wheel and am prepairing for the next try to generate a toothpick's worth of force.

Robert.. So it was a no-go with the new "toothpick force" mechanism?
The limits of the possible can only be defined by going beyond them into the impossible.

Seawasp,
The "new" one you refer to, is the one I'm just getting around to preparing the wheel for...

People tend to only believe what they understand. That's a shame! because, sometimes that is damn little. jim kelly

Belief is for fairy cakes. I don't want to believe, I want to know.
Help me understand, Jim.

BILL; Everything that I said, and much more are matters of public record. Magazine articles, Newspaper articles, NHRA newspapers, Hotrod Magazine 1964. Engineering news, 1966.

I know you want to remain secretive about your design. But, can you tell us if it is self-starting or does it require an initial input of torque to increase the speed of its parts so that they generate CF. In other words, is the design dependent in someway upon CF for its operation? Would you say CF assists or hinders its performance?

I can understand how after building a few PM wheels over a period of years (one even made from 44 gallon drums filled with concrete) that you can't remember the last little critical bit to get it going James.
Why just yesterday I forgot how to drive, but don't worry, its come back to me.

jim,
I happen to have all the issues of Hot Rod Magazine for the years 1961 Mar-Dec, to Oct 1968.
Where is the information you refer to? What month, page, &c?

ALL OF THEM are self starters. Centrifugal force has no effect. speed is part of the power. To increase the power, all you have to do is allow it to run faster.
