I'm sorry if I bothered you Ralph.

Time now to get with the next attempt.

I have one of twelve of the second set of weights roped in and it cycles around without any conflicts and pulls where it should pull and slacks where it should slack....

"James"

Ralph just said you were becoming "senile".

How do you respond to that? --LOL

Robert,

You just can't leave it alone can you.
<Ralph just said you were becoming "senile".>

I said no such thing, what I said was:
may be leading to senile characteristics, and is man enough to admit it.
I am no doctor or have any experience to claim a 73 year old man is positive for any disease. I am only stating a possibility base on his own admission.

I hope you get your kicks out of all this, you must get a thrill out of not having any respect for seniors when they are in the barrel.

Lets watch and see what all this does for your forum reputation. I see that it has caused mine to drop a notch.

I hope you have a different experience with your set up than I've had with my previous designs using a secondary set of shifter weights. My problem was that the shifting of that secondary set always resulted in its CG being located on the ascending side of the wheel! No matter what approach I tried, I could not get around this annoying phenomenon. However, the key to using secondary shifter weights would seem to be to have some arrangement of them that would also place their CG on to the descending side of the wheel along with the CG of the main drive weights.

ken
On 7/6/06, I found, in any overbalanced gravity wheel with rotation rate, ω, axle to CG distance d, and CG dip angle φ, the average vertical velocity of its drive weights is downward and given by:

Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ

Thanks Ken,

OK, I did a test of the difference between the descending and ascending sides.

I will first describe the wheel a little first.
There is the one shifter weight connected to one drive weight.

There are the twelve drive weights which need the toothpick force applied in one spot to make them go.

So, on the descending side I cut a stick long enough to reach my postal scale on the floor and to rest a bolt on, on the wheel, so as to allow measurement of the downward force after the drive weight has shifted.
Reading: 960 grams.

Doing the same thing on the ascending side, 180 deg. opposite...
Reading: 680 grams.

The shift weight is 1135 grams but is always about half way in from the perimeter.

I have no idea yet how it will do when they are all connected together.

LOL
I PARAPHRAZED WHAT YOU SAID AND IT MEANS THE SAME THING.

BUT NOW U SAY JAMES IS NOT SENILE.
ONLY SHOWING SENILE CHARACTERISTICS (becoming senile).

IF JAMESBO IS NOT SENILE, THEN WHY USE IT AS AN EXCUSE FOR HIS NON-OP WHEELIE?

Perhaps there are other persons showing signs of senility?

I see because of my stand my "rep" has dropped to "none" LOL!

I'd like to suggest a moment of silence as we mediatate over all of those dead new years resolutions. May they rest in peace.

Ken,

Did some more quick measurements moving the shift weight up and down one drive weight position from the horizon.

at o'clock:

Descend Ascend CCW rotation
10- 460g. 0 2- 760g.
09- 970g. ----- 03- 680g. Horizon
08- 380g. 04- 495g.
Total: 1810g. Total: 1560g.

So it looks like the shift weights will add about 250g. each on the descending side. I thought that the drive weights would have to overcome them, but maybe they won't need to!

Arranged the single shift weight differently, and that makes it move a little easier. Its influence is felt a little sooner too.

Will have new numbers tomorrow sometime.

I see my rep bar again says, "none".
U liberals are very touchy aren't u?

If my rep isn't back to where it was by high noon EST this coming Monday, I'm outta here, along with any discoveries I may make. This board, and all associated with it will be the last to know. I made the deals, I change the deals.
Or, someone can come out before Monday and say git and I will.

DO THE BEST YOU CAN.

You might have worked somewhere and they hired a brilliant college boy and put him in charge of everything. This kid knew it all. Anyone ever been there? What usually happens when the kid starts telling everyone to do something that's absolutely insane is that everyone jumps on it. They encourage the kid. Eventually it's obvious to the kid and the boss that maybe this kid should be sweeping floors for a little while. The same thing happens in the army when they get a new second lieutenant into the unit. Boy do they know the book but they sure don't know how to get something done. It's kind of funny to watch them hang themselves. But you can't tell them anything; they know it all.

The right thing to do would be to tell that young engineer or second lieutenant that they're messing up but they'll set you on fire if you do. 'Son! What do you mean by telling me what to do?!? Who do you think you are??!' ....'nothing, sir! yes, sir! no one, sir! kiss my butt sir! pardon me, sir, was that out loud, sir?!' It's just not worth the aggravation.

So what's the point? Heck, I don't know. I think Robert is one of the few people on this board that attempts serious builds. I do some interesting things but only on discs of cardboard or cd's. There are others that do builds. Maybe there's a little overreaction. 'Yes, sir, that ice will hold that jeep but maybe I'd better stay here and make sure the convoy knows which way you went...'

Have you been watching Air Force One again?

You sound just like the Russian leader who took over Air Force One in the movie.

I measured all twelve positions, descending at 9 o'clock and ascending at 3 o'clock, with a stick reaching down to a postal scale on the floor. CCW rotation. These meas. are again of one shift weight connected to one drive weight, as it travels 360 degrees.

Descending

12-220g
11-735g
10-880g
09-480g Edited: Typo, should be 780g not 480g.
08-625g
07-300g
06-105g

Notice that there are 7 positions that wanted to descend, and 5 positions that wanted to ascend.

The difference between ascending and descending is plus 845g on the descent. Edited: should be plus 1145g.

Ascending

05-120g
04-555g
03-780g
02-645g
01-400g
