Robert...

You've given a lot of force data for different positions on your wheel and said that you use a stick from that section of the wheel to a postal scale on the floor. However, if you want to measure torques, should not all the readings be made at right angles to the points where the stick touches the wheel?

Actually, you only need to make one torque measurement that counts. If the wheel turns CCW then placing the stick between the 9:00 position of the wheel and the scale placed directly below that position will give you the torque in gm-feet or, using completely metric units, gm-cm. This reading will be the net CCW driving torque and just so long as it does not drop to zero during a 360° rotation, you will have a working wheel!

On 7/6/06, I found, in any overbalanced gravity wheel with rotation rate, ω, axle to CG distance d, and CG dip angle φ, the average vertical velocity of its drive weights is downward and given by:

Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ

I'm glad everyone is smiling :) Me & about 4/5ths of the rest of the technology deficient 'late adopters' can't see the clips :( I'm imagining a steely faced, bandy legged, cowboy showdown with associated animals.

These are too funny, I especially like the Clint Eastwood with the mule, hahaha; I think they are just sound files.

Bill, I noticed an entry in Wikipedia on Bessler; did you submit it?

The stick is straight under the 9 and 3 o'clock positions, so that is a right angle. Each position has a bolt to rest on the top of the stick at 9 and 3, and I rotated the wheel all around and let each bolt do that.

Seven positions pressed down on the 9 side and five positions pressed down on the 3 side.

Excess weight?

When they're all connected it will probably all just cancel out. Anyway, this attempt seems mysterious to me more so than the others. I feel very calm about it.

They are just .wav audio files Fletch - Windows Media Player should have no problem with them.

No. I would never suggest the scandalous possibility that Bessler's wheels were driven by a cleverly hidden internal spring and that by the time a buyer had time to find it Bessler would be long gone with their money. Pity, up to that part it was a reasonable account.

Try: right click on the link then 'save taget as'. Pick somewhere to save it, like your desktop. Then you can try to play it from there using Media Player.

Also, here's a link to a free download of a great little player called VLC which will play just about anything you can throw at it: http://www.videolan.org

I'll ride real slow like, so as not to kick up dust, singin.....
