re: Osama's Message to America!
An eye for an eye or a taboo for a taboo.
A recent development from Iran’s largest newspaper - They are going to respond to the cartoons of Muhammad, defended in Europe in the name of freedom of expression, with a cartoon contest on the theme of the “Holocaust.” Will we hear the West preach "freedom of expression” then? The cartoons will likely be criminal offenses throughout continental Europe and perhaps actionable in Britain as well. hypocrisy?

So they're going to post publically what is being said in private? What's good for the goose... This won't help either way. It will just put more fuel on the fire.
This saga will not end until the world comes to bloody blows.. That is why it is paramount that no nuclear capabilities must be allowed to fall into the hands of the radical nations. Unfortunately, for us all, this will get harder to control.
Perhaps the discovery of Besslers secret, will take the pressure of things and cool relations. With less dependance on oil, the less oil becomes a national security problem. Since most of the oil comes from the Islamic Arab states, then I dare say, that the West will pull their noses out of their affairs.
Perhaps we could be the ones that save the world! ;-p

re: Osama's Message to America!
Don't be talking to me about race and species and genes if YOU have no clue what they are.
Educate yourself. And that isn't simply taking what the first person tells you as fact.
You have 97% the same GENES as a frog. A genetic difference does not mean different genes. You can have the same genes as Jack and different eye color because the genes are just a carrier for codes. The same GENE can have millions of different actions. We're talking about a molecule that can recombine in like a million million ways.
But certain groups of people tend to have similarly acting genes. They inherit them from their parents. You don't get Jack's parents genes. And I hope you don't pass your genes to his kids.
Interbreeding will make more different people not less. The differences may appear less, but there will more.
In most features we see in people, one type is dominent over the other. For example in eye color, you get one gene from each parent, if you get two brown genes you have brown eyes, one brown and one blue gives you brown eyes, it takes two blue genes to get blue eyes. You will still have the blue gene in case two but it is recessive. You won't show it in your features but you can pass it to a child. But your chances of passing it are 50/50. So next generation is 25/75 and so on. One day there will be no more blue eyes. Unless there is a breeding group in which all members have two blue genes. What has this got to do with gravity or 300 year old riddles anyways?

Just because someone has freedom of expression, he should be willing to accept the consequences of that expression. If one yells "Fire" in a crowded movie theater and a stampede results that causes many injuries or deaths, then that person can be prosecuted for mass murder and executed!A recent development from Iran’s largest newspaper - They are going to respond to the cartoons of Muhammad, defended in Europe in the name of freedom of expression, with a cartoon contest on the theme of the “Holocaust.” Will we hear the West preach "freedom of expression” then?

Ken,
If you look at the typical muslim cartoon and the date of it you'll notice that the muslim world has a history of making inflammatory statements and publishing inflammatory cartoons. It is an historical fact that mohommed spread islam with the sword. The model that mohommed started is merely being carried out today.
It's nice thought to imagine that it would be a great world if everyone would just be sensitive and get along. Don't hold your breath for that to happen. Yasser Arafat as Chairman of the PLO agreed (September 9, 1993 -- part of the Oslo Accords) to:
yet the plo charter still denys Israel's right to exist (Article 20: "Nor do Jews constitute a single nation") and calls for it's elimination (Article 22: The liberation of Palestine will destroy the Zionist and imperialist presence and will contribute to the establishment of peace in the Middle East ...) The charter can only be changed by:

There are, ultimately, only two possible solutions to this problem.
The West can just sit back and let Osama and his Jihadist/Islamist followers take over one country after another from Moracco to Indonesia and hope that his Taliban style theocracies will somehow straighten out all of the problems that have been swept under the rug for decades in these countries.
Or, the West can take the initiative in improving the standard of living of the average muslim and introducing him to the concept of democratic selection of politicians and rule by majority consensus.
I think, in the long run, the second option is the best for all of the citizens of planet Earth. Distortions of 1200 year old religions that deny the individual's right to exercise free thought are not the answer. As many on this Discussion Board know, I am not anti-religion, but I do strongly oppose the use of religion to promote intolerance, bigotry, and suppression of creativity. I also find it particularly annoying when religions are used to fill people's minds with needless worry and fear.
In its efforts to promote the second option above, I would, based on recent news stories, have to give the West a grade of C-. We are, in my opinion, actually helping to recruit members for Al-Qaeda! That has got to stop as soon as possible or the "war" on and financial costs of terrorism may never come to an end...

I agree that, despite my "syrupy notions", the problems of the world are not going to magically go away overnight if the West just applies enough good will to the regions involved. There is much poverty, frustration, and anger throughout most of the Muslim world. Only a relatively few of the Arab states are "oil rich" while the others live in virtual poverty. If it was not for this poverty, then Osama would never have developed such a widespread following amongst muslims.do you honestly think it would matter? I don't. re: Osama's Message to America!
The "West" is not to blame here.. It's in most part the lifestyle and education of the poorer Islamic countries who have religion force fed into them from the time they are born.
Their whole life, customs, work, society revolves around the Islamic faith. They just do not know any other concepts. For them it is the real and only world and the way all things should be. How easy it would be to get so many "brainwashed" Islamic fundamentalists to do the dirty work for Osama and Co?
By delivering the "West" as the evil empire that should be blasted into oblivion so that the Islamic world can come to full fruition is the goal of many Muslims.
Add to that their desire to turn everyone into Islam, and you have a very powerful "War machine" brewing up. The crazy fundamentalist has no regard for other human life as he believes that because they are devoted Muslims, all acts of Jihad are acceptable. That means killing innocents. All for the advancement of Islam. It's either convert or die. This basic notion exists deep within the Muslim world. That is why we don't see much opposition to these crazies.
So what can we do? We could sit back and do nothing.. Or take the fight to them. If anything, they may wake up from their prehistoric world and come closer to a more reasonable one. If Islam has lived by the sword.. Then it should die by the sword.. Harsh words?.. It's the only language that these crazies understand.

However, I think that, right now in the West, there is still much confusion as to exactly what the average muslim wants. I suspect that the vast majority certainly do not want Western powers meddling with their countries or religion, but they also do not want people like the Jihadists ruling them.
Exactly how all of this will end up is anybody's guess. The American people still have not had a belly full of the "war" on terrorism yet and it seems likely that the Bush administration will get Congress to approve the hundreds of billions of dollars more needed to sustain it. I think that Iraq is being used as a test case to see if it is possible to forge a Muslim country from the start that will both have a secular democratic and, of course, West friendly government and freedom to pursue its Islamic religion...somewhat along the models of Turkey and Egypt. Of couse, Osama and his cohorts are aware of what the plans of the West are and they will be doing everything in their power to disrupt those plans and demoralize the non-muslims of the Western countries.
Anyday now, I expect the next attack that Osama promised in his last message to be launched against the United States. As I previously stated, the terrorists are into numerology and they will consider launching an attack on or around 2/22/06 to be a good time. That date will take place on this coming Wednesday. IF it does, I am wondering what the reaction of the American people will be. Will they renew their slipping commitment to the "war" on terrorism? Or, will they, like the people of Spain did after their train bombings in Madrid, decide they have had enough and that it is time to "declare victory" as we did in Vietnam and bring our overextended troops home?

Well, we should do what the majority of muslims want us to do. If the majority are happy with living under Taliban style theocracies with Osama and his "crazies" running their lives, then I say more power to them and maybe the West should get out of these countries as quickly as our ships and planes can carry us.So what can we do? The majority of muslims want us to help them with their 'final solution' to eliminate the descendants of monkey's (the jews) and return to them their palestine. Then they probably want our women to wear burkas and for everyone in the world to either declare what's on the saudi flag or to have that icon on the flag (sword) dropped across their necks. They might settle for some tribute.
I think that the majority of muslims should do what I want them to. Join civilization or if that's too unacceptable then well you know what they can do. You know.

re: Osama's Message to America!
Gene...
The problem is really that about 1 billion people on our planet are trying to play catchup with the rest of the modern world. They are torn between their culture that places a priority on religion and a modern world that expects them to adopt certain standards of individuality and social behavior. It is going to be a difficult and traumatic transition for them to make and, I believe, that much of present terrorism is associated with the adjustment process that they are being obliged to undergo.
Osama and his cronies represent reactionaries who are uncomfortable with the transition and want to prevent it. The secular muslim politicians in most of the countries involved along with a large percentage of their middle and business classes represent the modern moderate muslim that welcomes the changes that are sweeping through their countries.
Whenever a change comes, whether it is in politics, science, or religion, there will always be a subset of a population that will resist it and try to delay or prevent it. That's nothing new. It's just too bad that the price of the adjustment process in measured in the shedding of innocent blood.
I have not doubt that, in the end, Al Qaeda and its supporters will lose the 'war" on terrorism. They will, over the decades, realize that they are, in fact, losing ground and, at some point, will just give up and accept the change...if, of course, they are still alive by that time.
As the world becomes more technologically advanced, it seems to become more secular with each passing generation. I can see this in the United States. When I was a kid, the churches were packed on Sundays. Now the attendance is only a fraction of what it used to be. People are looking elsewhere for a sense of fulfillment rather than to religion. In time, the same thing will happen in the muslim world...
