Doc,
I've come up with a better expression than this...
..........lets just make it easy on everyone and say i must be the one who's one french fry short of a happy meal
it's...
..........a few foot/pounds short of a turning wheel
Aren't we all?

Here are some graphs of my current idea which works on WM, and which I said I would put up today.
Any comments, analysis, questions are welcome.
Without all the graphs it ran out to over 34k frames before the program limit was reached.

Robert,
You asked for questions and comments, so please don't be upset if what I say is not what you would like to hear.
I'm not sure what you think about your wheel? Are you of the opinion that the idea is working? Or is this just an idea that your still testing?
My opinion is that what you have is a coasting wheel. It is not speeding up nor is it slowing down. It is not consuming energy nor is it producing energy. You can produce the same results by attaching an offset weight to a wheel and then giving the wheel an initial spin. With little or no friction the wheel will then continue to turn and turn. It will speed up and slow down each revolution due to the imbalance of having a weight attached. If you have weights that move about the wheel then they will speed up and slow down the wheel as it turns. If a mechanism were to actually work it would speed the wheel up until the mechanism reached its optimum output.
Try putting a momentary brake on your wheel and see what happens. This can be done by using a motor to put a backward torque on the wheel. Make the motor 'Active When' using the following formula...
AND(time>100,time<150)
Set the torque and time values as needed.
Just my opinions,

Robert,
I agree with Jim. How could I go wrong? You have an oscillating torque and acceleration and an alternating velocity. It seems like the forces are well balanced to me.

Hey Rob...just by chance, is there a curved polygon used somewhere in this? They do have a bit of a glitch in some applications...

Jim, Gene and Steve,
The model was running with a pin friction setting of 0.25. I don't know what that equates to in real life though. That is the only pin/pivot in the sim.
Accuracy was set at 80.
There are no curved polygons.
I appreciate yall's thinking and suggestions...

re: It Would Be More Noble To Clear J. Bessler's Name, than
Robert...
If you haven't done so already, then you might try setting the air resistance to "high". That will put some drag on the rotating parts. If your model can still maintain constant velocity with that drag acting on it, then it must be outputting some extra energy!

On 7/6/06, I found, in any overbalanced gravity wheel with rotation rate, ω, axle to CG distance d, and CG dip angle φ, the average vertical velocity of its drive weights is downward and given by:
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ

Your velocity has a (visual) tendancy to slowdown a bit. -- see attached image.rks1878 wrote:Here are some graphs of my current idea which works on WM, and which I said I would put up today.

Unless you have more detailed info, it should be wise not to be too enthousiastic and make sure for yourself it is keeping (or better accelearating) it's velocity.
But I think it must be cool to see it rotate!

Scott,
Since my screen name in " members browsing" now appears in a different range of the visible spectrum (color) from everybody elses, I was wondering if you could also show your xpertise by making "rks1878" spin or preferably "just revolve"?
Just asking.

If you mean the orange color Robert, everyone has it. As was pointed out by some other members you get a lot of options on this board, but certain comments also prove the point that "free "just" isn't respected as much as "price", maybe Scott should start charging? It wouldn't be such a bad thing Robert, maybe if you paid enough you might be able to buy your way on as a board member.
re: It Would Be More Noble To Clear J. Bessler's Name, than
Mike, thanks for ebullient and informative post.
I might pay for a rotating or flashing screen name but not an orange one.
Wonder how far this board would go with dues being required?
I think it would be a smash hit and that more members would join.
I recommend a free 30 day trial first.

Lighten the mood was what we were trying to do with Torque Seeker! Remember Torque Seeker? This was the screen name my friend was using, but then ovyyus saw that it was coming from the same ip address as rks1878, and immediately accused me of fraud, when really Torkie was somebody else. Seeing this faux paux, a bell rang, we looked at each other and thought we could have some fun with it by playing along.scott wrote:Happy April Fools Day Robert. Well, all sorts of exaulted, moral crustaceans came out from everywhere, yelling VIOLATION OF TERMS OF SERVICE, Fraud, etc, etc, and so we looked at each other again and thought what a chickenshit, self-righteous bunch of boneheads this is. Imagine being so SURE of their RIGHTNESS.
jim kelly may have been apalled.
Well, it doesn't look like I'm going to get as many laughs this time with your site admin ploy. PSSSSST, I saw it!
