Scott ; i will stand by my decision that it was a valid post . i believe the eight steps are a true progression . to me it's immaterial who wrote it or in what time frame . as for your question of when did we go from a republic to democracy . i believe that was in several steps . the loss of states rights in civil war , the passage of the "aldrich or fed. reserve act of 1913" , then approx. 1931? where they changed from appointing legislatures to electing them . when they were appointed them they were required to vote by the will of the people . that move effectivly broke the hold of people over government . must have worked well to their advantage as the "victory tax" of ww2 was continued to this day . i believe truman or eisenhour made it a permant extension . income tax became a permanent item to the general population . the supreme court refuses to rule on it even though it's "voluntary" well how close am i ????????? i can stand to be corrected !! I found this little gem of 'banner waving' as I was cruising here and cruising there and wandering around the internet blogs.Gene, it seems to me we should be grateful that today's immigrants are working hard, waving banners, and otherwise trying to join our social and political processes, rather than

re: Osama's Message to America!
Gene...
I do not really blame those protesting illegal aliens from waving the Mexican flag. If they had been made to feel welcome in the USA to start with, then they would have been waving American flags instead! When millions of hard working people are made to feel like they do not belong and do not really have a share in America's future, that kind of behavior is to be expected.
I noticed, sadly, that the new immigration bill that Congress was on the verge of passing got derailed at the 11 hour because of some right wing types who decided that it was not tough enough on the illegals and did not penalize enough of them. That means that the matter will have to taken up again when Congress gets back from Easter break. It seems like the matter has now become a political issue when, in reality, it should be a moral issue.
Well, it will finally be resolved and, as I predicted earlier, the 12 million who are now here will, eventually, get the full citizenship status that they have earned with their sweat. However, I would not be opposed to deporting anybody who misused their opportunity in America to commit serious criminal acts. Perhaps if they sit it out in a foreign jail for a few years, they will appreciate their lost opportunity here.
Meanwhile, I just heard more bad news...
Supposedly, since Bush took office about 5 years ago, the USA's National Debt has increased by $3 trillion USD to a new high of $9 trillion USD. Since he has another 3 years in office, there is the potential, once inflation is included, for the National Debt to reach $12 trillion USD. IF all of that money was borrowed from people outside of the USA or from about 6 billion other citizens of planet Earth, then that means each of them has now lent our country about $2000 USD! That's a LOT of money to have to pay back...

Hanging a mexican flag is one thing, raising the USA flag upside down for reason other than a call for help in distress is an insult! Why not just burn it.

How do you know if any of those 12 million illegal aliens "earned" anything. They are not registered or have paid taxes. This should not be a political issue. Give them a limited time to sign up, pay a fine, learn to read and write English and work toward citizenship within a limited time. Is that asking too much for so much that they are getting?
Under Clinton the GDP went up 55% compared to Bush's 32% so far. If that keeps up he will be better then Clintons. Deficit without GNP doesn't mean anything.

Good points, Dave.
A very good question is 'how much love is there in an organization called La Raza?' It means 'the race'. I guess the implication is that if you aren't hispanic you aren't 'the race'. Pretty racist if you ask me.
A government has the ability to print currency. Although paper currency eventually returns to its intrinsic value when you can print money you can't go bankrupt. Governments are a different legal fiction from a corporation or a person; a corporation can go bankrupt but a sovereign nation can't.

On a different subject, I have been noting recently that there is some very disturbing rumors beginning to circulate.
Apparently, Israel intelligence has become aware that, quite recently, the Iranian nuclear weapon program experienced a major breakthrough. This breakthrough involved a quantum leap in the efficiencies of the "cascades" of centrifuges that they are now secretly using to extract the U235 needed to make nuclear weapons. Now, instead of requiring up to a decade to obtain enough of the fissionable isotope to make their first nukes, they may be able to obtain tens of kilograms of the material in only a few months from now!
This revelation has really spooked the White House and the war planners in the Pentagon and CIA are beginning to consider a massive bombing campaign to "take out" all of the suspected Iranian nuclear processing facilities where the bomb grade U235 could be made.
As of now, there are about 75 targets that have been identified through the use of remotely controlled drones that have been secretly surveilling the Iranian landscape since about 2004. These drones acquire information that it would be impossible for a spy satellite to obtain. They even "sniff" the air over suspected locations and collect the gases so that the filters can be analyzed later to see if any radioisotopes were picked up.
Anyway, the problem is that about 24 of the target locations are underground bunkers that can be protected by as much as 50 feet of reinforced concrete and soil. These facilities are immune to conventional aerial bombs. The solution?
Well, the solution is to use ground penetrating munitions or "bunker busters" on them. But, the bunker busters being comtemplated (such as the B61-11) actually deliver an ultra low yield nuclear warhead to the underground target! That's right! We may shortly be using nuclear weapons on Iran!!!
Although the blast is only about 0.1 kilotons for these devices, they can, if they detonate before they penetrate the ground, produce a blast capable of leveling a large neighborhood. Their use is, therefore, made even more riskier by the Iranians tendency to put military targets close to civilian residential areas.
I think the plan could be to begin an air campaign sometime this year that will, in one bold stroke, destroy the Iranian nuclear weapons program and also, while we're at it, most of their army, navy, and air force. This extra destruction would be a preparation for an actual land envasion sometime early next year.
It is probably being hoped that once this aerial attack has sufficiently militarily weakened the present ruling regime in Iran, that the people will rise up and depose the government there. Then, as we did in Afghanistan and Iraq, some coalition of Western forces can march in and "stabilize" the situation as a nice democratic governement is installed in Tehran.
Well, it all sounds so simple. But, I think we'll discover that the people of Iran are far more nationalistic than we suspect. Once an aerial attack is launched, they will react by uniting and considering themselves under attack by the West. When that happens, they might counter attack by invading both Afghanistan and Iraq and tying the West down in those countries for years to come.
Then, of course, there is the problem of Al-Qaeda. In an interview that Osama gave during the late 1990's, he claimed that he already had nuclear weapons, but would not use them on the people of the USA unless we used them on muslims. Well, those bunker busters are not exactly Hiroshima type bombs, but they are certainly nuclear weapons. My concern is that their use might provoke Osama into using actual Hiroshima type nukes on American cities. Already we have been threatened with an attack by him this year...I wouldn't want to even consider what the effects of even a small successful nuclear attack would be on our country and our economy.

I think that registering all of the illegals now in the USA is a good idea. However, none of them are going to comply if they feel threatened with deportation for doing so. Unfortunately, many older people will not be able to learn English well and, for them, they will only be able to speak / read / write in Spanish for the remainder of their lives here. Their children, though, will be able to go on through our educational system and learn English. This should not be a political issue. Give them a limited time to sign up, pay a fine, learn to read and write English and work toward citizenship within a limited time. Is that asking too much for so much that they are getting?

re: Osama's Message to America!
Well, I've been following the nation wide protests by the Latino community and it is obvious that this on a scale with the civil rights demonstrations of the mid 1960's! I always make a point of reading some of the signs in such marches because they can give a quick summary of the feelings of the marchers that may not even be discussed by the media.
One sign said "Today we march...tomorrow we vote!". Well, I'm sure that the out of town members of congress saw the same sign and have not forgotten it. In case they do, there is a planned day of work stoppage that is intended to show the country just how vital the work of the undocumented aliens is. Whether the rest of America wants to acknowledge it or not, their low cost labor helps keep prices down in many areas such as the service sectors, manufacturing, and construction.
I heard that one of the problems that has these people annoyed is that, while the US government says they would be welcomed here IF they were legal, the reality is that the USA only allows about 55,000 people per year to "legally" enter the country. And, for some quirky reason, our State Department has decided that when a list is made up each year to determine who the 55,000 will be, they purposely exclude people from Mexico and Central America because so many of them enter illegally anyway! Obviously, if the government ever wants future immigrants to follow the rules, then this discriminatory practice has got to stop.
I also noticed that the Bush Administration is now denying all of the rumors about an impending aerial attack on Iran and has labeled them as "wild speculation". However, when (and IF) the world finally gets ALL of the details of what is currently going on in the Pentagon and CIA, then today's "wild speculation" may seem to be extremely simplistic and conservative by comparison.
Supposedly, there are already commado teams physically inside of the borders of Iran that are now obtaining targeting data for a future attack and the war planners have reached the conclusion that, unless we "go nuclear", such an attack would be a waste of time! The biggest problem facing the Western powers at this time is how to "sell" this extension of the "war" of terrorism to their citizens. It will be difficult to do unless Osama keeps his promise (God forbid!) and carries through with another 9/11 style terrorist attack on the USA.
This year will, no doubt, be a pivotal one in the history of the Western powers...

I think I read one estimate that by the year 2025 there could be something like 5000 nuclear power plants generating "clean" electrical power worldwide. However, no one ever talks about what we will be doing with all of the highly radioactive waste that will be coming out of all of those reactors. Maybe we should be talking about it NOW before we find out, too late, that the problem was not adequately planned for...

Unfortunately some of those signs say "Gringo This is our home".
What do we do about those?
Its not that Americans will not do those jobs but at what rate?
If there were no illegals the wages would increase and Americans would do the jobs. We would be paying more for lettuce but we pay more now for their "entitlements".
Give them a limited time to sign up for a workers license(same letter count as drivers license, get the hint), learn to read and write English, pay taxes and achieve citizenship in a limited time. What is not moral about this?

re: Osama's Message to America!
We already had the one day work stoppage while they were all out ranting and the country hummed along as usual.
These people don't want to be Americans. They want to be Mexicans living in America. They don't even know what American is. If not subhuman they are at least subAmerican. No other immigrant group resisted assimilation the way they do. Sure others retained aspects of their former homelands, but all other groups wanted to be American.
Most of the illegals working here are not 'employed' so as for their nonemployers to not get in trouble. The laws pertaining to knowingly hiring illegals are only for employees. They avoid the law by being 'independant contractors'. They are paid cash. They pay none of the taxes that an American employee would have to. Here in Minnesota, the required tax for workers compensation alone on roofers is 105%. There are no white roofers here any more. They cannot afford this rate when mexicans who don't pay it can work for half the price.

re: Osama's Message to America!
I have alway been amazed and confused by the change of geographic terms applied to the word Americans.
When this country was formed we were known as the "United States" Which is located in North America, so is Canada and Mexico. That below Mexico is called Central America and then there is South America.
Why has the population of the United States become known as Americans when our neighbors are as American as we are. We call them Canadians or Mexicans but they are as American as we are.
Even Murilo located in Argentina is an American.
Over a period of years the US population seems to think we have exclusive rights to call ourselves Americans. We are citizens of the United states which is in the continent of North America with Canada.
Just my thoughts

The Lowest Common Denominator....Greed and those who Kiss greedy heiny....IE. The demoralized Rich and the Demoralized poor.....
Are seeking to crush those 'moral and/or Godly' in the middle.

Peace,
TS
P.S.

As most of humanity suffers under tyrants, misled by the devil and his cohorts who've recently been thrown down here, nothing short of Yahshua, King of Kings, will remove these oppressors and bring everlasting peace.
