I have the air resistance set on high. The friction coefficient can be set after it is running, but your right it will keel if it starts out with friction and air resistance.

Hmmmm. let me clarify. you can start it out with friction but you have to change its starting point.

Can you post the model with the starting point modified and friction pins !?

Excellent, but if Constraint[3] pin Radius is more than 0, it stops .. .

What kind of friction should we expect in the real world !? . ..

Bearing friction is determined by two things; the bearing radius and the coefficient of friction. If you set the bearing radius to zero you get no friction. See this post from about two years ago for real world friction coefficient numbers.

Great information Jim,

here is a photo of the pendulum with all settings above 0.

I did have to readjust the weights and wheel dia. There is still room for gain.

Good work ..

Can it take a load !? . .

Maybe we should combine our two ideas together, mine seem to work too, not as good as yours but it's on it's way . .

Look at my thread : "An idea that worth your time" ..

If it can give you other ideas . . . And combined, they may close the loop .

LIB,

I hate to say it but I think I am ( I can't speak for you) on a dead horse. I just don't see the idea as one that could produce enough energy to come close to Besslers idea. Maybe putting 30 or more of these pendulum's inside a wheel......I don't know. Perhaps if you joined them many times in parallel or series and connected magnets to their extremes to produce electricity, but, I just don't see this as the solution.....unless someone else has a comment to enlighten me.

Jon: I don't know, but any motion that can do work is acceptable as a solution..

An idea may spark later that gives you the way to implement it into something more constructive..

But as is, it's a good principle, now you need to build a mecanism around it.

For anyone interested,

Here is the pendulum kinetic energy graph run out to 32k frames with all settings at .05 or higher, air resistance high, at around 28 rpm.

The best that I have been able to simulate is all settings at .09....anything higher, and it keels.

Does anyone have an idea what real life ball bearing that translates to. Brass, Steel, or would the best test be duplicate a weight test on the perimeter of an actual wheel and use that?.

any suggestions.

If it dies at .09, I don't think it will do work, but it might turn by itself for a long time....

Working with Mr. Woo and wm2d, I adjusted, and readjusted the weights, dimension and size of the wheel pendulum (its not really a wheel or a pendulum). I found there are specific weights (proportions) that you have to adhere to or it will not function. It will only go out to around 5 minutes at all coefficients at .10 , but .09 works better than a timex. I'll use a pivot joint in the construction, and a bearing to cut down resistance.....We will see. If nothing else, I'll learn why it won't work and go away a little wiser.....I hope.

Wish you the best luck !..

I am, too, building a physical prototype of my wheel .. Bearing friction in my case, doesn't looks like a problem.. I'm using rollerblade Bearings..

Maybe you can use them too !?
