Looking for Electrets

Post by rmd3 »

Anybody know where to buy these things? I have no time to make my own, but I would love to experiment with a FE idea using these.

Thanks,
Randall

Thanks, rlortie!

I over-googled!!!! I was looking for "electret supplier" and other things... who'd a thought just the word "electrets"...brilliant! Maybe this kind of obviousness is missing from the search for Bessler's secret!

Thanks again,
Randall

A simple electret type device is three electrolytic caps. Charge each to near rated breakdown voltage and connect a + to+ and the - of the second + to the - of the last one. Now remember the center cap can't discharge to anywhere but it's neighboring di-electrics, so you will always have a net+ between cap 1 and 2 and a net negative between 2 and 3. This results in the neg of cap 1 wanting to expel electrons whilst cap 3's pos wants to pick them up. Even just sitting in air, there will be a measurable charge between 1- and 3+ after a time. A ground to one and antenna to the other increases charge rate.

Play with 12 volts or less unless you know what you're doing.
