Thanks John you are much appreciated. we have a completely different concept here.I can not explain because it would give it away to too many.i made this unit this size after a 48 inch model worked, but for the wrong reason. when we solve this problem ,it could be made in a configuration to run an automobile,or larger to provide heat and power. This unit does not violate any known physical laws. It will operate now but not as we wished. we have had others and scrapped them.

We may have to go back to my old way, which was to make the model of plexiglass and modify until our problem is solved.

John C.,
I am mystified at the determination to build wheels as large as possible with as heavy weights as possible.
My set standard size that I have never exceeded is 48" in diameter. I get two disks out of one sheet of 3/4"X 49"x97" MDF.

I prefer this size as it has manageabillity to transport and is large enough for this old man in trifocals to see what he is doing. My weights are 2-1/2 pound barbell disks that I can use alone or in multiples. most of my design fabrication only calls for one per weight unit.

Once a design is proof tested, then I am prepared and capable of building a smaller unit of brief case size out of plexiglass and polished aluminum. Something that if required can be set upon the patent examiners desk that he obviously cannont ignore!

Quite Ralph. POP first then worry about upping the anty I would have thought was a reasonably sound approach ?

As to your wheels thrashing themselves to bits what about using spring loaded plates or thick rubber to absorb some of the impact while still transmitting the impulse force ?

I think that would be great.

Being a "dumpster diver" I recently visited a construction site of a new 3 story Motel. I retrieved over 500 lineal feet of 3" X 1/16" structural strapping in 4 and 5 foot lengths. This is high tensile stuff with a very high shear factor. It was in bundles of 10 each. Why they discarded it I will never know, one 4' piece sells for $5.95 US each!

I have a 14" chop saw for cutting it to length, I have not tried drilling it yet and am sure that I will be glad I have a 20" drill press.

My inside wheel thickness is 2-17/32" inches, this material is perfect, as I can build a rim out of double or more layers as needed.

I will still have room to pad each section with foam or rubber which is something I have always believed in. If I had installed it before first spin, I may have saved my original rim. Now knowing the capability of the weight mechanism, I am glad that it did bust out. Other wise it may have done so at a very embarrassing moment.

You guys better watch out. You may find the power output is directly proportional to the square of the noise generated, like some planes I've flown. Don't want things to go completely quiet though, that's even more scary ;)

Fletcher,

Speaking of planes and noise reminds me of my last visit to my heart doctor.

I was complaining about not having any energy or ambition. He looked at me and said, Well I will put it in your terms; Your heart is like attempting to power an F-1-11 with an Evenrude outboard trolling motor.

This thread is making lots of noise in its own way. I notice that there are now over 39% of posts since June 30 than Ken has achieved since April 2, of 05. Keep it up Mr. Kelly, You will soon be up with Robert, but be careful as he was disqualified from the race! LOL

RALPH; Do you suppose that since I didn't hurt myself today, that I might use 2 weights tomorrow?

Mr. Kelly,

Where as some believe that you and I are somehow connected, I rather you not add more weight. I do not think that I am up to lifting my end.

Tomorrow will find me applying another coat of sheet rock mud, and installing my new rim while it dries. One more coat and then texture, and I can tear down the darn stair well scaffolding that I keep banging my head into.

are you satisfied that James has an idea of a working wheel, or that you are not sure?

why he said he was waiting for you to arrive to see his wheel at his home?

Can you stand up and make a statement now?

I am not asking for details of your ideas, just a clear statement of your perception of the saga.
