Can I make a suggestion !?

Since there is a thread called unusual jack, this sparked an idea into me..

Why don't we create a web page with all possible mechanisms or ideas that have been tried..

A section Jack mech with all those mechs ideas.
A section Shifter mech ..

etc..

This could be added to besslerwheel.com and could be a very good addition ..

Granted, I could do that on my own web space, but, I believe it could be done here on that domain space, with a kind of "moderator" that would keep up to date the code of the web page and information ..


I volunteer for this job, so if it's possible, I can help for this "project" ..

I fully agree with your statement. Mechanisc and mechanisms are very important to achieve any result around the Bessler mystery.
When we has a "mechanical library" where we can browse and choose from various categorized mechanisms, it can be quite useful for our research.
I believe this is a very good idea, in every case.

Hi LIB. It is a good idea that has been brought up before. I would be happy to host such a page but I don't have the time to create or administer it. For me the forum itself is the next best thing. If you are offering to do the work I am all ears.

There are many hundreds if not a thousand or more failed ideas posted here on the board. If you want to organize and categorize them I would be more than happy to host the results.

Somehow I just don't see it happening. Maybe you will surprise me.

This web site is in Php so it will be fairly easy to do in my opinion ..
I will create some test pages on my own host and send you the link so you approve or not .

I am not sure if I will classify everything that is on the forum however, I believe it would be a good idea if every member visit the new area and post their pictures and descriptions ..

When it's done, I will send you the code (php pages) and it will be yours to implant into your host if you are interested.. ;]

Alright, here is the beta test, I am working on this so don't expect this link to be the final result, but it gives members a chance to give their opinions/ideas:

Btw, yes it will not be unlike the picture album already existing here, however, there will be much more to it..
Mechs will be stored in the database with a description, name, category, pictures, wm2d file, thumbnails and possibly link to the thread/posts on the forum.

User can search thru the library, they can insert new mechs, not necessarily wheels, but ideas etc..

User can browse specific categories .. ie.: Jack mechanisms, Shifter mechanism, rotational movements, linear movements, actual wheel ideas, working wheels* etc .. etc ..

Categories can be requested by users. Approved by admin.

I realise that maybe some members would not insert previously concepts in the library, so I will make a script that will browse the history of the forum to insert those ideas.

Uhhh... I can't see anything when I go to http://www.elvencloak.com/loster/index.php All I see is a blank page.

I looked at your html code and don't see anything that sticks out as unusual. Of course I'm far from an 'expert' on html code. I pulled some pieces of your code (the last table) and after adding the base address "http://www.elvencloak.com/" to the picture links that part worked ok. But something is wrong in the first table and I couldn't see why it blanks the whole page.

Oh yes sorry about that, I tried it in firefox and it worked, in internet explorer it doesn't .. I'll fix it . .

Effectively it's not finished.. It's just a beginning, but the database behind is being worked on at the moment ..

What you see will only be an index of the current mechs in the database, when you will click on a mech, you will be forwarded to a web page with pictures in their real sizes, formatting, specifications, description, wm2d models that the user have or have not attached to the mech etc..

Hi LIB, congrats, very nice work so far. However your app looks a lot like the Albums feature I added a while back. Is the main objective of your project to filter out the "non-mechanism" images from the existing albums? When I browse the album images by user or by month, it seems about 90% of them or more are mechanisms of some sort. Also, on the album pages the image thumbnails link back to their corresponding forum posts.

Just wondering.

Yes I saw that, but it's not as "user-friendly" to search into as an index of mechanism sorted by types, with a search engine that would strictly search in a mech library .

Maybe the easiest way would be to add some features to the picture album ..

However, so far, it's very easy .. But if you want, it could be an upgrade to the picture album .. !?

What I really want it to look like, is the maschinen tractate, in that you have a listing and you can browse by category, and it would not necessarily be a wheel idea or a picture of a monkey .. ;]
