Scott

It is always good to include every possible solution to science, so the more people who contribute to the cause, the more we all understand things.
It is called education.

I was thinking that a category for known fact would be helpful to everyone, and it would not have to be feed all the time. Only when standard ideas agreed to what is considered fact about motion, wheel, weight, and theory.
Sort of like the idea that force applied to one side of an object will cause a change or motion would be listed as fact or accepted theory leading to Besslers ideas.
Maybe like the attachment, but not set in stone unless everyone agreed as you have suggested.
A page of facts.

Wheeler, why don't you put that in the wiki .. It's there for that precise reason.

Lib
the politics or the idea?
Yes I will consider that if Scott thinks it is ok.
I am not sure of the Wiki yet. You know, how to use it, and what would be stupid or not useful.
I will read more on how to use it first.
Thanks

Well the way I see the wiki idea, is that you post what you want, if you believe it will be usefull and if someone find it's stupid, it will get modified.. ;]

Personally, I don't think politics belongs on the new wiki. I will probably delete it when I see it. I don't mind it now and then in the Off-Topic forum.

But LIB is right, you don't need my or anyone else's permission to post something on the wiki. If you think it should be there, post it. The community will decide if it stays, goes, or gets changed. The first step of any journey is always the hardest, so take it. Then others don't have to, they can just pick up where you left off. Then we all get there sooner.

It's the WikiWay http://www.usemod.com/cgi-bin/mb.pl?WikiWay

But I totally understand your trepidation. It's very natural when one is new to the concept. I feel it, too.

Let's all follow Rainer and LIB's lead. Thanks for blazing the trail, guys.

All I ask is that everyone try and use the "Show Preview" button as much as possible to help keep the edit history more manageable.

P.S. I just finished seeding all of the wiki help pages. Most of your questions about MediaWiki and how to use it should be answered there now.

Hey Scott!

No problemo, it's fun to insert new info in that wiki !

Btw, I am wondering, is there a way to put the current connected users on the wiki !? ..

Wheeler.. I was talking with Rainer yesterday about Beslerwiki. He explained that it is like gathering a consensus of information. That can be facts or theory. If people think what you post is sensible it will stay or only be slightly modified. If its rubbish someone will delete it etc.

It only works if large numbers actively engage the system so that you are left with the 'trickle down' results.

It then becomes a repository or library of relevant information that we can all add to, modify etc as the need arises. Hopefully it will be concise.

My only concern is that the consensus of opinion may stear us down certain paths which will be the common ground between us all.

Individuals will still have to engage the brain to find the solution 'off the beaten track' but it should help reduce a lot of misinformation & the covering of old ground for new members.

well, I couldn't remember my password, so I clicked on the email password and an error was generated

Login error:
Error sending mail: mail() [function.mail]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. Please use the date.timezone setting, the TZ environment variable or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/Denver' for '-7.0/no DST' instead

Scott I guess this maybe helpful in debugging.

Scott, hello!
Nice intiative you got!
Wiki is a respected stuff.
It's not that simple to reach about practic advantages, but I think I got the difference between BW forum and Wiki:
in BW people can program to keep one ignored and in Wiki they will delete to one.
Is that true?
Thanks, M.

Thanks trevie, I have added the date.timezone setting in my php.ini file so hopefully that should solve the problem.

I *think* I understand what you're asking murilo. I guess that is one difference, yes, but to my mind is is not an important one. And I would not recommend deleting things on the wiki simply because you do not like the author. I was trying to distill the major differences yesterday when I was working on the wiki overview page. What I said there was:
scott wrote:BesslerWiki was created to complement the BesslerWheel.com Forum. The forum is for discussion, the wiki is for information.

The forum works quite well for discussion, but over the years, a lot of good information ends up buried forever or repeated ad nauseum. The wiki can help solve those problems.

BesslerWiki is where clear, concise, and coherent Bessler information can survive and flourish.
That is getting close I think, but could still use some touching up. Good thing it's on a wiki. :-)

Scott,Lib, Fletcher and all
I may be fantasizing but I want to say that I hope you all will consider this a very serious tool.
For reasons that I myself do not understand, I think this will be an advancement for research into more details of Besslers mind.
Scotts discission to offer the Wiki offers us a way to put our experience and best efforts on record.

If you look back at anyones posts on the forum, most serious posters have good ideas and theories. Many have solid facts that can contribute to building a picture to form into an image for us to work with.

Gee Wheeler, you make logging in to community buzz really worthwhile and fulfilling. I don't know what I'd do if you weren't around to state the obvious all the time.

I can't help it, my brain goes numb when I read your posts, and I just can't keep it to myself!

"Thanks for that coylo".....hey no problem!

Great idea Scott! I just wish we'd had this facility a long time ago. I'll help out where I can, but at the moment must focus on getting Ed's and my website opened. We've been doing our website for the very same reasons you mentioned here, because we feel it's necessary to collate all the known information together for ease of reference, as at the moment it is spread around and often contradictory. I think with the wiki, our website and hopefully John's new Bessler book, we will have a wealth of information available to help us solve Bessler's wheel in 2007 - hopefully :-)

One thing I've spotted in the wiki chronology page is that the Gera wheel is incorrectly reported as being 3.5 Ells in diameter instead of 2.5 Ells or 5 Feet. I'll change it in a minute, but here is a link to the post I made about the error some time ago:

Scott,
thanks! You understood well.
Anyhow, I'll try to learn about wiki.
For the other side, I like very much to the new avatar you use.
Ancient and significative simbol to few.
Best regards! M.
